With November here, the holiday mood has officially kicked in across Singapore. Kids are on school break, and office workers are clearing annual leave.

The most-heard question lately?

“Where are you flying to for your year-end break?” ✈️

🇲🇾 Malaysia Overtakes Thailand as ASEAN’s No.1 Travel Destination!

In early 2025, Malaysia officially surpassed Thailand to become the most visited country in Southeast Asia.

📈 It welcomed 28.2 million visitors (+14.5%) in the first 8 months of the year.

From the vibrant night markets of Kuala Lumpur to Penang’s heritage streets, and from Langkawi’s beaches to Sabah’s islands, Malaysia wins with its affordable prices, diverse food, easy travel, and friendly locals.

No wonder it’s become the top pick for Singaporeans looking for a quick 2-hour getaway.

🌴 Vietnam Is the New Hidden Gem

In the first half of 2025, Vietnam welcomed 10.7 million international visitors (+21%), becoming one of Asia-Pacific’s fastest-growing destinations.

With its coffee culture, French-style architecture, and budget-friendly prices, Hanoi and Da Nang are quietly stealing the spotlight from Bangkok. ☕ Perfect for those who want a slower, more aesthetic kind of escape.

🇹🇭 Thailand Slows Down, But Still a Classic

A strong baht and tense borders cooled arrivals slightly, international visitors slipped 6.9% to 20.2 million.

Yet Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket remain ever-popular. For nightlife, street food, and endless energy, Thailand is still unbeatable.

Where’s Your Year-End Getaway?

I’m not surprised Malaysia has overtaken Thailand as ASEAN’s top travel spot. From Kuala Lumpur’s buzz to Penang’s street food and Langkawi’s beaches, it’s convenient, affordable, and just a short trip from Singapore — perfect for a quick reset without long flights.

Thailand will always be a classic, but rising prices and a stronger baht are nudging travelers toward better-value destinations like Malaysia and Vietnam. Both offer rich culture, amazing food, and warm hospitality at lower costs.

For me, Singapore’s festive vibe is great, but when I want to truly switch off, I’d still choose Malaysia or Vietnam. A few days of exploring, relaxing, and eating well always does the trick. ✈️🇲🇾

🇲🇾 Malaysia is the top tourist destination in ASEAN with good reasons. Visa relaxations, diverse tourist attractions, the government’s strong promotion, good infrastructure, and its multiracial cultural appeal, just to name a few. It is always a “Yes!” for Malaysian food anytime. I would like to buy $Genting Sing(G13.SI)$ and visit Genting Highlands anytime. Earn big money and play hard! For me, Malaysia overtakes Thailand one of the reasons is the safety of travellers.  Thailand no doubt is the best place for food and nightlife but the security is a bit poor if compared to Malaysia. I will choose Malaysia for a short getaway or vacation with family because it is near and the expenses are cheap compared to other countries. But if I have to choose between all Asia countries, Japan will always be my 1st choice (if no need to worries about budget [LOL])

When it comes to Malaysia overtaking Thailand, it is interesting to consider how both countries are positioning themselves in terms of tourism and international attraction

Malaysia is gaining ground over Thailand by offering a mix of beaches, nature, and history, supported by strong infrastructure, while Thailand remains popular for its vibrant party scenes, bustling markets, and cultural destinations。。。

As a global top destination, Singapore offers a sleek, organized, cosmopolitan vibe, perfect for those seeking convenience and urban luxury, while the laid-back vacation modes in other Southeast Asian countries can be just as appealing, depending on the type of getaway one is after

Each country has its own charm, but no year-end travel plans this time around
