getting rid of bad quality stocks

**Using Options Trading to Manage Underperforming Stocks: A Strategic Approach** Investing in the stock market is inherently risky, and sometimes, despite our best research and intentions, we end up holding stocks that don't perform as expected. When faced with such a scenario, there are strategies within options trading that can help mitigate losses or even turn a disappointing situation into a profitable one. In this article, we'll explore how to use options trading, specifically cash-secured puts and covered calls, to manage underperforming stocks. **Understanding the Basics** Before diving into the strategies, let's clarify what we mean by options trading. Options are contracts that give the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call option) or sell (put option) an underlyin

Writing a post to document my retrospective of my trading of $Gilead Sciences(GILD)$ during its recent earnings. TL;DR Buying Call options might have earned me more, but shorting a Put option was more aligned to my assumptions and minimized my assessed risks. Pre-earnings Market sentiment was bearish. Sales of Veklury®️ for COVID treatment was reportedly down, it had just pulled the plug on a couple of late stage research trials, and it was still in the midst of its HIV antitrust lawsuit. These made me think the market was overly negative, which gives me an opportunity to profit from it. Why overly negative? In the previous quarter, Gilead had already failed to meet consensus. My AMD options play for earnings week!

Situation as of 30 July 2023 - Price action is around 3 MA lines - MA5/MA20/MA50 ==> very easy for bulls or bears to push through taking 3 MA lines at one go! - 108/109 has been a constant support past weeks! ==> Break below would mean quite some liquidity to push the sell down - Options statistics show a variation of 7% to 8% range play this week ==> Interestingly, it coincides with levels of 105 and 100!!  - Bull flag fib retracement shows we are hovering around Fib 38.2 ==> can still be bullish if there is a push My approach/plays - Positive reaction from earnings ==> Sold puts will be safe so not much concern there. Existing sold puts will be good.  - Negative reaction from earnings ==> Options statistics play means gap down to 105 and 100 and given the liq

I had been trading options since year 2021. I find this option trading is a very good trading tool to earn money. I only trade sell put options for those shares that you intend to own it if the sell put option exercise. After getting the shares, then I will trade sell call option that I intend to sell off the shares. Therefore I will immediately earn premium profits from the Sell Put/Call Options. I don't need to bother whether the options exercise. Of course, you need to ensure you have money to buy the shares if the sell put option exercise. On the other hand, you need to ensure you have the shares on hand to sell off if the sell call option exercise.

Unusual Options talks?(6.13)Better Covered Call!

With the release of May CPI and the June FOMC meeting, the U.S. stock market has experienced some brief fluctuations and adjustments. The big tech companies continue to reach new highs due to the influx of funds, while some previously oversold stocks in the consumer sector have also seen opportunities for a rebound (CP retracement). The overall U.S. stock market is currently at a relatively expensive level. 美股各版块个股的前瞻市盈率After stocks reach new highs, investors often consider hedging or taking profits to a certain extent. Therefore, covered calls have become one of the best choices. Looking at the significant transactions on June 15th, we can see that there were varying degrees of large call orders for $Sea Ltd(SE)$

My last trade of year is selling a long Google call at strike price 125 with a premium of 7.90 to hedge against my existing Google 100 shares of positions . Ifmarkets drop like shit I am hedgeby the premium price of $8 against the drop  $Alphabet(GOOGL)$  If it rises and get excerised I will not mind to sell it at 125 plus 7.90  And get back the cash  If it continues to drop to 60 at least I lose 7.90 lesser . I can sleep abit better [Happy] [Happy] [Happy]  @TigerEvents @TigerStars @

Options can be a better choice when you want to limit risk to a certain amount. Options can allow you to earn a stock-like return while investing less money, so they can be a way to limit your risk within certain bounds. Options can be a useful strategy when you're an advanced investor.

Options premiums during earnings are usually very high so I prefer to use vertical spreads to reduce the cost of the trades. Choosing out of the money strike prices if you think the stock is going to make a large move will also help to reduce the trade cost and improve the risk to reward ratio

How I would use stock option during earnings season?

During an earnings season, if I expect the earnings of a stock to disappoint, a way to benefit from my expectation without actually forking out significant funds to acquire the stock may be to buy a put option with the stock as the underlying asset. I could then make a profit when the put option premium rises after the announcement of poor earnings or outlook. If however the earnings surprises on the upside, at most I would lose will be the option premium paid previously. Alternatively, I could write a put option with a strike price that I would be willing to buy the stock when its price falls upon release of the earnings results, and earn the option fee upfront from selling the option that will help to subsidise my payment for the stock in due course when the option buyer exercises the pu

One possible option strategy for earnings play is to use a shorted dated double calendar spread thats due to expire just after earnings date. Its much cheaper than a straddle, however the profit zone will be narrower.
