A few weeks ago average daily volume for AMSC was around 160k—for months and months. Sometimes daily volume was under 100k causing me to wonder if AMSC was a forgotten publicly traded company. And here we are—suddenly shares are trading above 2mm per day with one day approaching almost 5mm on total outstanding shares of 30mm. perhaps $50 a share or higher but not $25. I and others have been staying, this company had a cap on it due to fears of further dilution. As that cap is removed it goes to $30 a share on its own in the near term. Someone buying the company is going to have to cough up at least $60/share. My thought in the event of an acquisition is that a prospective buyer is already buying the company on the open market. I think they have 15 days to report (is that correct). The new owner will get as many shares as they can before announcing a buyout and then make a tender offer for remaining shares. If this is what is happening, how many shares do you think have been purchased in the open market at the volumes for the past week? $American Superconductor(AMSC)$

I read some info on “meme stocks” to better understand some of the comments on this board. I suppose I am a “diamond hand” and not a “paper hand”—if AMSC is a meme stock about to go viral through social media. However, it seemed like the “to the moon” idea of a meme stock rests upon a high short interest by hedge funds. Granted the short interest has increased dramatically in the last week. But just three weeks ago short interest was at an all time low (around 567k). Short interest was above 3mm shares last week, and likely much higher now so perhaps meme status is not out of the question. The recent superconductor breakthru does fits the bill for indirect news used on social media for fanning the flame of a meme stock.
