What's Our Goal for the S&P 500 This Year? The S&P 500 is like a big scoreboard that shows how well 500 of the biggest companies in the U.S. are doing. People watch it closely to guess how the economy will do. But guessing where it will end up by the end of the year? That's a big question. Let's break it down into pieces that are easier to understand. **What's Happening Now** Think of the economy as a giant machine with lots of parts. The S&P 500 shows us how this machine is running. Some of the parts we watch are: - How much things cost (inflation) - If it's easy or hard for people and companies to borrow money (interest rates) - Big world events that can shake things up - How much money companies are making - How fast the whole economy is moving **Interest Rates and Prices**

Markets standing tall The markets have held up pretty well going into March and this is where I have to add that the markets that are doing well are doing so on narrow leadership.  The magnificent seven have been pulling the markets along as they ploughed through the bears. However, they have all been taking turns to fall back. Tesla was first and not surprisingly so being more of an EV story and much more affected by high rates. Then Apple and Google were next both not making new highs. Microsoft followed thereafter just recently which leaves only Nvidia, Meta and Amazon to hold the fort. Now that everyones' technicals seem to paint a complete pattern upon a five wave pattern, it seems only a matter of time before they pull back. So as much as the bulls would like the party to c

AMD and Nvidia remain resilient! The markets swooned on Tuesday. However despite that and after an initial dip, AMD and Nvidia climbed back up and Nvidia even managed to close in the green. To make it sound even more impressive, it is the only one amongst the magnificent seven to be able to do so. Talk about effort! Ok so what does it say? Well, I would take that with a pinch of salt really. Firstly, volume is not convincing. That tells you something. On a day where every name seems to get pummelled, AI seems to be the ‘safest’ place around and that might have attracted some retailers to try ‘catch the dip’. AI is still very much in play and FOMO still around. However the price action in the general markets is quite telling. The broad market index needs to hold 5050 or else, more selling m

Nvidia vs Apple Nvidia and Apple need no introductions. Megacaps in their own niche with moats carved out in their own fields. They are that massive, many countries could not even hold a candle to them. They are that important and their products so critical to the world, if countries are publicly owned, they are there amongst the top! So having said that, it is no wonder they have so much say in discussions and countries agendas, so much so that their CEOs visit countries at leaders' invitations! Nvidia CEO just visited Singapore not too long ago to discuss AI and investments. Talk about clout! So when these companies sneeze, the whole world might catch a cold you may say. So where are we in terms of their market performance. Again I like to turn to technicals for perspective. Ot

SMCI - Is it the new darling of tech? SMCI is a stock I like very very much. However, I divested it just before market close on Friday before the inclusion into the broad market index was announced. Well.....this is testing my 'ignore the emotions' capacity. But it does feel sucky seeing a stock you just sold off gain lots in the after market. Oh wells....life goes on! 😄 To be fair, I am bullish SMCI long terms as do I on the other names that I associate with AI such as Nvidia, AMD, Marvel, Micron, so forth and so on. I believe that AI is only just starting and the runway is still long ahead. However, lets get real. At this moment and time, I believe the valuations are really really stretched. And that is to put it mildly. Sentiments are bullish bordering on bullish extremism and when you

Stay alert - Expanded Flat Pattern in play The markets may have gone on to new highs. Many are calling it a breakout and clamouring for a new bull market. Theoretically it makes sense. Technically speaking, price breaking out above a previous high is bullish. But is it that simple? If price patterns are not considered, it will be too easy to declare it a breakout buy.  And henceforth why we see bullish calls all around. They do not call it a bull trap for no reason. I am not saying a new bull market is not possible. In fact, that is one of the possibilities that I am factoring in. Just that, it is not my primary count because of the technical pattern I am seeing.  The market has to be viewed from a big perspective which means that the pattern in play now is on a multi year t

Nvidia in a nutshell Fundamentally, Nvidia is early in the AI trend and has a huge runway ahead. I do not deny that and am long term bullish on Nvidia still. However, it is now at the stage where it will face tough comps moving forward coming off a couple of exhilarating quarters with stupendous earnings. Emotions have to be kept in check with facts and technicals are a good way of aligning with the facts. They have a way of showing up the facts before the fundamentals actually catch up. Technically, Nvidia is in the fifth wave of a third wave of an impulse pattern stretching from the Oct 2022 low. Technically, this third wave started from the October 2022 low. The preceding first and second waves stretched all the way back to the 2016 lows. So it is in the last throes of its third wave b

Tiger BOSS Debit Card - BIG BOSS BASH!

Find out more here: Tiger BOSS Debit Card - BIG BOSS BASH! The Big Boss Card is here! Those tired of having 'no control' over their foreign transactions will be happy with this card. For me personally, I was considering the DBS multicurrency debit card for my foreign currency transactions and when this came along, I was thrilled! Thing is about foreign currency transactions ( and it is usually in USD), we have no idea what is the exchange rate at the time of transaction and almost all the times when we do know, we realise the bank rates are just out of this world. And we

Riding the Nvidia horse All eyes are on Nvidia. To say the pressure is on is an understatement to put it mildly. Having delivered stupendous numbers and guidance to set its shares on a rocket propelled course that other competitors have yet to match(Unless you are talking about SMCI which is like comparing apples and pears considering the product mix), there is only one other who dares challenge them in their moat.  I am talking AMD and maybe Intel although Intel has lots to do to catch up and with their hands full on driving up their foundries, I do not really see anyone else other than AMD challenging Nvidia's crown in AI.  Fundamentally wise, AMD is doing rather well. However, their numbers have not done enough to propel their shares and guidance given seemingly purposefully

I love you 5000? The markets have entered a bout of volatility at around these levels and time period. Euphoria is in the air on the back of new highs achieved as well as the narrative of a soft landing really catching hold. Data supports this soft landing approach and that is why I am still putting that on the table to be pragmatic despite my gut feelings telling me that a recession is still a big possibility. Inflation is however the cat in the bag and that shows with the market sell off with the slightest inclination that inflation is not done and dusted.  The market picked itself up rather well however post that sell off to rally back strongly with the broad market index reclaiming 5000 in the process. So where are we heading in the midst of this up and down? I have advocated
