$Apple(AAPL)$
So, the Apple vision pro claims to be a 'Spatial Computer.' Wah, so fancy! It's not just a boring old desktop or laptop or even a mobile device. It's spatial, which means your screens can appear anywhere in your view. Wah, like magic sia!
But wait, is this product going to shake up the markets? Judging by the stock performance, I don't think the markets are very impressed leh. I mean, $3499 for something? I don't think it's going to be the next big thing with mass adoption, you know? We want everyone to buy it so Apple can make a lot of money. But looking at the response after the announcement, I don't think the markets like it very much.
But before we analyze whether it's worth the price in terms of tech, let me give you a quick history lesson on these AR/VR devices. The Apple vision pro is more of an AR device, where it overlays information on the real world. On the other hand, the Oculus Quest 3 is a VR device, where you get totally immersed in a virtual world. So, there's no point comparing the Apple vision pro with the Oculus Quest 3 because they're like apple and durian, totally different lor. If we want to compare, let's compare it with the Hololens 2 from Microsoft. You can read an article about Hololens 2 here: https://sg.insight.com/en_SG/shop/partner/microsoft/surface/hololens.html.
Okay, now let's break down the tech. Is it really worth $3499? Considering the price and the fact that it has the famous Apple M2 chip, wah, confirm very power sia! This chip can handle all the demanding tasks and even gaming. I'm sure the graphics on Apple's Vision pro will be stunning when you wear the headset. So, in terms of hardware, with the M2 chip, the 4k resolution in each eye, and the cameras, I think it's worth the $3499 lah.
But here's the catch, because it's a headset, it's a bit selfish lah. You can't share what you see with your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend, you know? Imagine sitting on the sofa and having a movie screen as big as the wall in front of you. Wah, so shiok! But then you can't watch it together unless you both have one of these devices. See, a bit boh hua right?
Another use case I can think of is for full-time traders. Instead of buying multiple screens to monitor all the different stocks, just buy a vision pro and pull up multiple screens around you. It might cost about the same as multiple monitors, and save space also.
But honestly, a lot of this is just speculation. I don't have a strong use case for this product. I see it more as a novelty item. Whether it's worth the money or not, it's up to you lah. But if you have faith in Apple, I hope they can really make it big in the AR/VR market.
