Options Spy: Buying and selling put options became mainstream trading strategies at the same time
Market highlights:
The latest data showed that the United States unseasonally adjusted CPI annual rate of 3.2 percent in July, the first acceleration since June 2022, but below market expectations of 3.3 percent, compared with the previous value of 3 percent. The seasonally adjusted CPI rate recorded 0.2% in July, unchanged from the previous month and in line with market expectations. The unseasonally adjusted core CPI annual rate came in at 4.7%, below expectations and the previous reading of 4.80%, the lowest since October 2021.
J.p. Morgan chief strategist Marko Kolanovic wrote in a new note that PE looks too high as central banks in the U.S. and Europe are unlikely to turn in the near term. Advising investors to reduce their equity holdings: "Current valuations suggest that investors expect continued economic expansion or 'no-landing' and monetary policy easing." "But the 65 per cent chance of a recession this year or next, and the 35 per cent chance of a soft landing, suggest underweighting equities and credit and overweighting cash and commodities."
Geoff Dailey, an analyst at BNP Paribas, said the break in the recent rally in U.S. stocks does not mean the end of the bull market, but rather provides a good time to buy. He said that the outlook for the stock market remains optimistic, however, from the trend since the beginning of June, there may be a period of consolidation ahead.
NVDA fell 4.7 percent on Wednesday, but the Financial Times (FT), citing multiple people familiar with the matter, reported that giants such as Baidu, Tencent and Alibaba are stockpiling high-efficiency chips crucial to building generative artificial intelligence (gen AI), about 100,000 A800 processor chips, with a total order value of $5 billion.
