I'm Officially Nio Bagholder

Nio plans to sell $1 billion in convertible notes.

The electric vehicle (EV) industry holds immense promise, and as a firm believer in its potential, I've been closely following developments in this space. I bought in $NIO Inc.(NIO)$ as a speculative play, as Nio is a prominent player in this exciting sector, especially in the China market. As of today, I would like to announce that I am a bagholder [RIP]  and my current position in Nio is down -36.34%. [Spurting]

Ironically, GME was one of my biggest wins

What Happened

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio Inc recently announced that it has successfully raised $1 billion through a two-tranche convertible bond offering. The company intends to utilize these funds to address its debt obligations and bolster its financial position. This news comes on the heels of Nio's plans to launch its first self-developed mobile phone, signaling a broader strategy to enhance the connectivity and software features of its vehicles.

NIO Intraday

Following the announcement, its stock price experienced a significant 17.07% decline just yesterday. This decline is likely due to market expectations that a substantial portion of these notes will be converted into American Depositary Shares (ADSs), potentially resulting in a dilution of value for current shareholders.

How I view this

It's important to note that I hold a position in this stock, so please consider my view with a degree of caution, as my perspective might be influenced by my vested interest.

The convertible bond offering comprised two tranches: a six-year put-four convertible bond and a seven-year put-five convertible bond, each raising $500 million. Both bonds are senior and unsecured notes. The shorter-dated bond carries an interest rate of 3.875%, while the seven-year bond bears a 4.625% interest rate.

Nio stated that a portion of the proceeds from this offering will be directed towards repurchasing some of its existing debt securities, while the remainder will primarily be used to strengthen its balance sheet and for general corporate purposes. This strategic move highlights Nio's commitment to managing its financial health and ensuring sustainable growth in a highly competitive electric vehicle market.

It's worth noting that Nio posted a net loss of 6.12 billion yuan ($839.51 million) in the second quarter, which was higher than the loss of 2.75 billion yuan recorded during the same period the previous year. While the financial performance reflects some challenges, the company's continuous efforts to secure funding and manage its liabilities demonstrate a commitment to its long-term vision.

As for the recent -17.07% dip in Nio's stock price, it's essential to remember that stock markets are influenced by a multitude of factors, including market sentiment, economic conditions, and industry trends. Short-term fluctuations are common and may not always reflect the intrinsic value of a company. Investors should consider their investment horizon and risk tolerance when making decisions.

Factors such as Nio's ability to execute its growth strategy and deliver on its promises will play a significant role in determining its future stock price performance.

What I will do

As a speculative play, Nio represents only a small fraction of my portfolio, accounting for just 0.17%. [Duh]

Nio is 0.17% of my portfolio.

I employ a Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) strategy for this stock, so I am currently not planning to add more shares for this month. I do not see this as an opportunity to double down just yet at this price. My idea price to add more allocation for NIO is around 6.50. I might add more shares this month only if the price reaches the range of 5.40-7.50. As for options play, I am currently not implementing any options strategy to hedge or recover the losses for this stock since the loss is not really affecting my overall portfolio. I believe it's not yet the right time to double down at the current price. My ideal price range for considering additional allocation to Nio is approximately between $5.40 and $7.50. I may reconsider adding more shares for this month only if the stock's price falls within the range.

NIO Daily Chart

Regarding options trading, I am not currently implementing any options strategies to hedge or recover the losses for this stock, as the losses from Nio are not significantly impacting my overall portfolio at this time.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Nio's successful convertible bond offering is a step towards fortifying its financial position and pursuing its growth objectives. While stock price movements can be volatile, the long-term prospects of the company will be shaped by its strategic actions and performance in the electric vehicle industry. For those who, like me, see potential in the EV industry, diversification and prudent risk management should remain key principles when managing investments. [Grin]

I won't be surprised if NIo opens at $9.50 PM. Nio raised 1B already. If the lenders can lend 1B, they probably know something. I would not wanna be in short position tomorrow! Just food for thought!

Thinking of buying.. i just came back from Shanghai, and surprising Nio is everywhere, even more than Tesla, Xpeng etc. Green plates I heard are popular there, and incentives are on till end of the year, I would expect nice numbers this quarter. Lets see if I can catch some knife this week

NIO does not have a union and production will ramp up after Friday's strike by the union in America and around the world, and China will take a leap in production as well as Tesla. The only individuals in America investors do not see this but a few with vision. Do what you want as an investor but after mid October you will see more production out of China and the numbers will beat on delivery of EV vehicles and production numbers out of China beating and prices going through the roof
