Tesla Looks to Build EV Battery Factory in India

$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$  may build a plant to make and sell batteries in India as part of its plan to expand into the country, one of the biggest fast-growing economies.

The electric vehicle maker has been in talks with the Indian government and is seeking incentives to build a plant to make its Powerwall system, which can store power from solar panels. Reuters reported the news Friday, citing unidentified people familiar with the talks.

Tesla (ticker: TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk visited India earlier this year and has spoken publicly about setting up a factory to build cars there. He's in good company -- $Wal-Mart(WMT)$  , $Apple(AAPL)$ $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$  and $Amazon.com(AMZN)$  are also expanding in India.

Tesla shares climbed 0.7% in premarket trading Friday. They have more than doubled this year.
