ChatGPT picks MSFT, ZM +3 more.. Buy & profit in 2024 ?
Many investors are hoping that 2024 will be one with a proper bull market.
With 2024 just mere days away, Finbold decided to ask OpenAI’s flagship platform - ChatGPT - what stocks a savvy investor might consider loading up before 2023 is over.
The AI platform offered a decent selection of companies, some more & some less surprising.
Are you ready to find out ChatGPT’s recommendations? Let’s go !
(1) $Microsoft(MSFT)$.
First up, a safe bet for any investor.
This IT company has had a rather challenging 2023 and managed to navigate several turbulent periods successfully.
After a lot of back & forth and high level negotiaton, Microsoft managed to complete its acquisition of the gaming giant Activision-Blizzard; despite the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) still trying to contest the purchase.
Microsoft also managed to stabilize and resolve the abrupt situation that emerged when Sam Altman was suddenly & temporarily booted from his post as the CEO of OpenAI.
ChatGPT considers Microsoft:
A very strong pick due to its (a) sprawling business empire, (b) diverse portfolio, and (c) strong historical performance.
Offers stability and growth to a portfolio.
The technology giant is up approximately +56% since 01 Jan 2023. (see above)
Is there any reason/s not to like this Magnificent Seven stock?
(2) $Zoom(ZM)$.
Although the covid lockdowns is way behind us, ChatGPT believes that remote work is here to stay.
With its continued leading role in (a) cloud communication and (b) video conferencing innovation, makes Zoom a strong stock pick for 2024.
ChatGPT states that Zoom:
Offers stability and growth to a portfolio.
Has position itself to benefit from future digital communication booms.
In 2023, ZM has mostly held steady and recorded modest YTD growth of about +11.34%. (see above)
It bottomed on 27 Oct 2023 at $59.29 when Nasdaq was at its lowest before the big turnaround.
(3) $Shopify(SHOP)$.
According to ChatGPT, Shopify is an important player and a strategic bet in the ever-expanding e-commerce sector.
Continuous improvements in Shopify’s platform and scaling, position this e-Commerce company, for future success.
Shopify is a crucial bridging platform for the success of small & medium companies looking to ride the current e-commerce trends.
In 2023, Shopify has been marked both by:
Significant volatility.
Staggering growth (to an even greater extent).
It bottomed on 05 Jan 2023 at $35.95 per share. (see above)
The company is, YTD, approximately +118.47% in the green.
Isn’t it time to “$SHOP” to our hearts content ? (pun intended!)
(4) $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$.
Nvidia is the biggest player in the semiconductor industry and a crucial part in the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
Nvidia is well positioned for continued success in 2024, with its latest high-end AI chip, the H200.
The tighter export “ban” restriction effective since mid-October is a temporary setback, that will be resolved eventually in 2024.
According to ChatGPT — “an investment in Nvidia is an investment in innovation & cutting-edge technology, in the fields of (a) gaming, (b) AI, and (c) general graphics processing.
It started at rock bottom on 04 Jan 2023 at $147.49 per share. (see above)
And it has been soaring since, without nary a breather.
Nvidia has logged an incredible performance throughout 2023.
It is up a staggering +
245% YTD.
(5) $Pfizer(PFE)$
Pfizer is ChatGPT’s most controversial stock pick.
According to ChatGPT, Pfizer’s robust vaccine portfolio has position it as a major player in the pharmaceutical industry.
ChatGPT further justify a Pfizer buy:
Offers a balance between relative stability & growth potential (due to its strong market lead).
Offers a glimpse into the “future”, with its ongoing research and development (R&D).
In terms of its 2023 performance, Pfizer has been on a long and steady decline from its COVID-19 highs ($59.48 per share).
In 2023, it bottomed recently at $26.13 on 14 Dec 2023.
YTD, the stock is down -44.19%.
ChatGPT is of the opinion that Pfizer is a good long-term stock to invest in.
Coupled with the recent surged in Covid-variant cases across the globe and urgent warning issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), who knows Pfizer might indeed soon get a second wind soon (don’t quote me, its ChatGPT - LOL!).
My viewpoints: (mine & mine alone)
Of the 5 recommended stocks, I like both Microsoft and Nvidia because of their artificial intelligence stance.
If ever there is a need to pick 1 of 2 from the above, my choice would be Microsoft, due to its close interactions with consumers. I could relate more to that.
I am unsure about Shopify because I don’t care much about shopping online or shopping for that matter. Been there, done that. Its back to the basics for me nowadays.
As for Zoom, it was dominant player until Microsoft came out with Microsoft Teams that is integrated to Outlook, Calendar etc.. and kind of displaced Zoom.
Zoom still has its plus especially when conferencing external parties that could be far, few and in between really… So this will definitely not be on my radar.
As for Pfizer, I have my reservations as well.
If we were to buy into Pfizer based on covid vaccine, then wouldn’t Moderna ($MRNA) be a “better” buy comparatively speaking? (see above).
As if this is not convoluted enough, let’s throw in BioNTech ($BNTX) — the pioneer of the mRNA technology.
Amongst these 3 bio-companies, only Moderna & BioNTech have mRNA cancer treatment drugs under clinical trials.
Pfizer’s foray is still in “internal-planning” stage while BioNTech, Moderna, and CureVac have more advanced clinical trials and promising early results.
Given my limited resources, I would rather invest in Moderna or BioNTech instead.
