[Sleep and Investing][Happy]

Way back many many years ago when I was a super noob investor, I did experience loss of sleep over "investing". What was I doing and what happened?

Leveraged Forex Trading[Surprised]

Yup, I did that and was all into pure technical play. I was reading lots of news on countries and crystal balling too. (NOT a recommendation) As a result during my hallucinatory profitable days, I made more in a day than in my monthly salary. I was thinking that I should quit my job and be a full time force trader.

What goes up must come down. Yup, then the crash happened. I started pulling in more with blind faith that things will suddenly reverse. It was not trading, more akin to insane gambling. Couldn't sleep and couldn't tell people how much I loss daily. The final straw came when I got hit with 2 margin calls and I decided to stop.

Nowadays...[Grin]

Nowadays after doing into this journey of investing for a longer period, I sleep well into the night. My index Robo investing is well in the positives and I am happy. My passive income and dividend investing is paying me income regularly on the go while appreciating in value. And my own stocks investing is well in the positives.

Of course there were days when the draw down on the stock portfolio went as low as -40%. But nonetheless because I have grown wiser and set aside my portfolio well with rainy day funds, I slept well and comfortably.

So how?

Well my humble recommendation is as follows:

1. If you're a noob investor/trader with less than 2 years of experience, please only invest and trade with amounts that you can afford to lose 100%. Yup. No kidding. Please set aside 6-12months of rainy weather funds first. Yes you need it. And also get yourself insured properly. If you have any issues with those recommendations, you should learn to save first.

2. If you have 2-5 years of experience and some bloodied noses, you should allocate a portion of your money for investing and a portion to rainy day and dry powder. How much %? Well ask yourself, if you lost all the money Invested, can you sleep? Can you tell your spouse or loved ones? That should guide you.

3. If you have experienced 2 to multiple major crashes, think 2022, 2020, 2008, 1997, then you should know better. I have known people die on their portfolio crashing 50%, so I trust you know what I mean.

Remember, sleep is precious and irreplaceable. Studies have shown that catch up sleep is largely INEFFECTIVE and that loss of sleep significately impacts one's own physical and mental health.

Remember, health is wealth.

And you need health for a long life to compound.[Grin]

Here's a cute pic of how to learn some Singlish. Are you all proficient in it?[Sly]
