Each split entity was supposed to be separately managed with the "right" to file for an IPO. Alibaba would retain (from memory) 50% ownership with zero votes or control. No cash & no potential entity shares would be directed to BABA VIE share holders. NONE.
Alibaba would receive 49/50% of the initial shares from the IPO. Alibaba would simply be a major share holder in each entity. Again, BABA share holders would only have their BABA VIE shares. Anyone wanting split entity shares had to purchase them seperately on the platform markets carrying them.
As a VIE share holder we are invested in a Cayman Island company contracted to share in Alibaba "profits". I, for one, have been glad that the splits have been, at least, temporarily halted. Gives me a chance to get out from under.
For now I have a long position started at $98 over a year ago. Recently I have been swing trading BABA at $71.50 & $77. I recently completed my 5th cycle in 4 months since Dec 2023. Short term total gains of $27.50 per share. If I sell my long position above $70.50 my loss is covered. I am hoping to soon dump this stock. I simply do not have the long "eye". All of my success comes from swing trades.
