The Best Performing Stock Sector Under Biden Is Energy!
πππ$Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund(XLE)$ has risen 143% since President Biden took office in January 2021 through to May 30 2024 according to Morningstar Research. That is about 3 times the total return of $SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust(SPY)$
In contrast the technology sector which is in second place, does not even come close. It has a total return of 67% in that time. The energy sector has offered returns that equals those from the Technology, Industrial and Financial Sectors combined.
The reasons behind the spectacular rise in the Energy sector stocks are the Corona Virus Pandemic, OPEC's response to it as well as the US sanctions on Russian energy following its invasion of Ukraine.
OPEC has continued to make cuts to its production and taken out between 4 to 5 million barrels of oil a day out of the Global market.
In addition to that there was the Middle East conflict in Gaza that is still ongoing.
I have invested in XLE before the Ukraine war started and held it till now. XLE is my best performing ETF as I am currently up 54%.
XLE is the largest Energy ETF with Assets Under Management of USD 37.62 billion. The expense ratio is a low 0.09%.
In just 1 trade I gain access to the best US Oil Giants such as $Exxon Mobil(XOM)$ $Chevron(CVX)$ as well as Warren Buffett's favourite oil stock $Occidental(OXY)$
The Top 10 holdings weightage is 74%. Total number of holdings is 24.
The current distribution yield is 2.4% paid every 3 months.
Performance wise XLE is up 7.6% year todate and in 2023, XLE has risen 12%.
Wall Street Analysts are bullish on XLE with a Buy rating, Target price of USD 107.90, an upside potential of 17%.
US and global benchmark oil futures are at their highest levels in more than 2 months. This is due to higher summer fuel demand as well a 5th straight weekly drop in active US rigs drilling for oil.
Global consumption of oil and gas is projected to hit records through to the next decade even as climate change pushes governments to shift to renewable energy.
I believe that XLE still has more exponential growth ahead and will continue to stay invested for the long term.
