$Starbucks(SBUX)$ had its best day on record, soaring 24.5% while $Chipotle Mexican Grill(CMG)$ fell 7.5% since July 2023.
It is not surprising that Starbucks jumped like a rocket to the moon while Chipotle fell. Brian Niccol led Chipotle through a massive expansion in both footprint and market value. During his tenure as CEO, Chipotle's share price soared more than 700%.
Brian Niccol is the maestro who brought in a new era in Chipotle where menu staples like burrito bowls were very popular and new items were introduced based on customer feedback. He led Chipotle through a food safety scandal with focus on quality and value for money for Chipotle's customers and they love it.
In joining Starbucks, I believe that Brian Niccol would give Starbucks a new lease of life by rejunevating the brand and in the process help to bring more customers to Starbucks and increase the revenue.
Brian Niccol is very experienced. He was CEO of Yum Brands ' Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and began his career in brand management at $Procter & Gamble(PG)$ .
Just like Brian Niccol, CEO Jensen Huang of Nvidia is very much the driving force of Nvidia' s success as is Elon Musk of Tesla.
Ultimately the long term effect on the stock price of a company largely depends on the CEO's performance.
Which is more important - Fundamental Data or CEO of a company when deciding to invest in a stock?
I believe that both core fundamentals such as profitability, balance sheet and the management of a company are equally important.
Nonetheless the CEO of a company determines the path the company will take to ensure its future success. Tesla would not be the same without Elon Musk's vision and hardwork just as Nvidia would not be the Trillion Dollar Company it is today without Jensen Huang's foresight on the future of AI revolution.
