NVDA Rises Week After GTC Conference ?

The one economic report that I did not share last Fri, 21 Mar 2025 was Thursday’s US weekly jobless claims.

Thought I better do so before this week’s list of economic reports are due.

For week ending 15 Mar 2025, weekly jobless claims rose by +2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 223,000.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast 224,000 claims for the latest week.

Claims have been bouncing in the middle of the 203,000-242,000 range in 2025 (so far), with layoffs generally staying low and hiring cooling off.

Latest claims is coming in ‘lower’ than the 4 week moving average of 227,000, that is ‘good’ news.

Even Fed Chair Jerome Powell commented on Wed’s FOMC post conference where he attested that "conditions in the labour market are broadly in balance."

Weekly beginning 24 Mar 2025.

As we inched closer towards end of Q1 2025 (also end March 2025) - the much-feared inflation report is rearing its head again.

Below are economic reports that may make traders jittery this week:

Monday, 24 Mar 2025:

  • S&P Global Flash US PMI for March 2025.

Tuesday, 25 Mar 2025:

  • S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index for January 2025.

  • Consumer confidence for March 2025. Will it be another sharp decline, this time round ?

Thursday, 27 Mar 2025:

  • US weekly jobless claims.

  • US Gross domestic product (GDP) final readings for Q4 2024.

  • Advance US trade balance for February 2025. This report might be worthwhile looking at since the first 10% tariff was imposed on China in early February 2025.

Friday, 28 Mar 2025.

  • US Personal consumption expenditure (PCE) for February 2025 will be published.

  • US Consumers sentiments final readings for March 2025.

Quarterly earnings report.

Below are some US listed companies whose quarterly earnings may attract some attentions:

Tuesday, 25 Mar 2025:

  • $GameStop(GME)$. Investors will be looking for clarity on rumors that meme stock - GameStop plans to invest in Bitcoin. If they are true, a spike / run might just happen again. Dare to bet ?

Wednesday, 26 Mar 2025:

Thursday, 27 Mar 2025.

  • $Lululemon Athletica(LULU)$ - as a premium brand, its sales are telling of consumer confidence and discretionary spending habits. A strong performance may suggest a healthy economic outlook among its target demographics.

Nvidia rises Week after GTC ?

I do not have a crystal ball to look into $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ future.

It is difficult to predict with certainty whether Nvidia's stock price will rise this week following its GTC event.

There are several factors to infer:

(1) Historical Impact:

  • GTC events have previously been catalysts for NVDA's stock performance.

  • 2024 GTC conference highlighted AI's transformative impact and marked the emergence of a new industry.

(2) Current Price:

  • As of 24 Mar 2025, NVDA's stock price is $117.7, that is lower than its recent highs. (see below)

(3) Analyst Expectations:

  • Some analysts believe GTC 2025 could potentially reignite NVIDIA's stock rally, but this depends on addressing key factors such as (a) the B300 AI chip, (b) AI server roadmap, and (c) scaling concerns.

(4) Short-term Forecasts:

  • Some predictions suggest a slight increase in NVDA's stock price in the coming days.

  • One forecast estimates the price could reach $119.60 by March 25-26.

(5) GTC Keynote Content:

  • The content of CEO Jensen Huang's keynote and any major announcements made during the event could significantly influence investor sentiment and stock performance.

(6) 02 April Tariff Eases ?

Last but not least, there is news about White House adjusting its approach to tariffs scheduled for 02 Apr 2025.

The policy is likely to omit a set of industry-specific tariffs while still applying reciprocal tariffs aimed at countries with significant trade ties to the United States.

The Trump administration is expected to exclude sector-specific tariffs, such as those on:

  • Automobiles. Looks like Tesla once again escaped the dungeon of tariff-death.

  • Semiconductors.

  • Pharmaceuticals.

Instead, reciprocal tariffs are likely to be implemented on about a dozen countries, potentially including those referred to as the 'Dirty 15' by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The figurative ‘Dirty 15’ referred by Bessent could include - Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union (EU), India, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia and Vietnam.

Why is it that I am no longer surprised that under the Trump administration, last minute change will be the order of the day, nothing remains constant “forever”.

  • Do you think US market will rally on the back of news that tariffs will ease for certain sectors?

  • Do you think Nvidia will benefit from the tariff ease ? Looks promising, I think !

  • Nvidia is a great company, no doubt of it, but it seems like investors aren´t trusting Huang that much. I believe THAT is also hurting the stock price.
