More Macro market report from @Tiger_James Ooi >> Charts Reading:More Volatility in Q3? Ways to Hedging & Speculating in Short-Term
Q: What are the scenarios for short-term trading? Such as buying on a sharp rise or bottom fishing on a sharp fall.
A: I tend to take action when the market makes sharp moves, either stepping in on strong upward momentum or buying into a sharp decline to capture a rebound.
Q: Do you conduct swing trading on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis?
A: I typically swing trade on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, adjusting the frequency depending on the market setup.
Q: In the recent market conditions, what concepts have you traded?
A: Recently, I’ve focused on themes like AI stocks and technology earnings plays, where strong narratives and catalysts drive market momentum.
Q:What types of instruments do you trade to capture short-term opportunities? Options? ETFs?
A: Primarily trade single stocks because they allow me to react directly to company-specific news, earnings reports, or sharp price movements. At the same time, I also use leveraged ETFs tied to single stocks or sectors when I want to amplify exposure without overcommitting capital.
Q: How do you screen for swing trading targets?
A: I look for stocks with high trading volume, recent breakouts, or strong ongoing trends. Screeners help me filter for setups that show both momentum and follow-through potential.
Q: How do you determine whether the current price is a suitable entry or exit point? What indicators do you look at in terms of price and trading volume?
A: I rely on a combination of technical indicators such as moving averages, RSI, and MACD, while also watching for volume spikes. These signals together help me confirm whether the timing is right to enter or exit a trade.
Q: Do you prefer left-side or right-side trading?
A: I prefer right-side trading, which means entering after confirmation rather than trying to catch a falling knife. I’d rather wait for price action to validate the setup.
Q: Under what specific conditions would you quickly execute a stock trade?
A: I move quickly when I see clear technical signals, such as breakout volume or strong reversal candles forming at key support or resistance levels. Speed is critical in these moments because hesitation often means missing the best entry or premium opportunity.
Q: Do you rely on any quantitative indicators?
A: Yes. I make use of momentum scores, volatility filters, and relative strength measures to supplement my chart analysis. These quantitative tools help me validate the strength of a move and filter out trades that don’t align with my criteria.
Q: Do you use any AI tools to capture short-term opportunities?
A: Yes. I use AI-based screeners and sentiment analysis tools to process market data faster and spot emerging patterns. These tools help me filter noise, highlight potential setups, and make more informed, timely decisions.
Q: Are you aware of the tools available on Tiger Brokers: Movers, Bull list?
A: Absolutely. I frequently check the Movers and Bull List to spot active trades and high-volume stocks. They give me a quick overview of where capital is flowing and which names are gaining attention in the market.
Q: How do you identify trading opportunities? For example, during earnings season, with better-than-expected results?
A: Earnings surprises, analyst upgrades, and sector rotations often serve as my entry signals. Strong earnings beats can trigger volatility and higher implied premiums, while upgrades and sector momentum highlight where institutional interest is shifting. These catalysts help me pinpoint opportunities with both short-term momentum and risk-reward potential.
Q: Do you have any specific industry preferences for trading?
A: I tend to favor sectors like technology, biotech, and cryptocurrency-related stocks because they move quickly and provide the volatility I look for. These industries often have strong narratives, frequent catalysts, and enough liquidity to support active trading strategies.
Q: Do you usually stick to familiar individual stocks for swing trading, or do you switch stocks frequently?
A: I generally stick to a core watchlist of familiar names since I understand their trading behavior and price action. However, I also remain flexible and add hot stocks when new trends or market rotations create fresh opportunities.
Q: What was your most successful swing trade? How much profit did you make?
A: One of my best swing trades was buying TSLL just before earnings. I exited with a gain of over 20% in just a couple of days, which reinforced the value of timing, preparation, and sticking to a disciplined plan.
Q: Do you think your short-term trading skills can be learned and replicated?
A: Yes. With discipline and consistent practice, these skills can be learned. The setups I use are repeatable, but success depends on following the rules and controlling emotions.
Q: What risk control measures do you think are most important for successful short-term trading?
A: Position sizing, stop-losses, and avoiding overtrading are essential. Managing margin carefully and maintaining discipline ensures that losses stay controlled while giving trades room to work.
Q: How do you like Cashboostaccount?
A: I think the CBA account is very efficient, with a 5-day interest-free period and T+0 trading access for U.S., SGX, HKEX, A-share, and North Bond stocks. Recently, new CBA users also enjoy 60 days of commission-free trading, which is a great benefit. For investors with a high win rate, there’s also the option to increase the limit and even link CPF to further scale investments—but proper risk management is absolutely essential.
Q: What advice do you have for our investors?
A: Don’t chase trades blindly. Always have a plan, manage risk carefully, and ensure that you learn from every trade, whether it wins or loses.
🧘Open a CBA today and enjoy access to a trading limit of up to SGD 20,000 with upcoming 0-commission, unlimited trading on SG, HK, and US stocks, as well as ETFs.
