Stocks declined to end a busy week after the monthly jobs report beat expectations, stoking fears that interest rate increases may continue longer than expected.
$Nasdaq Composite Index(.IXIC.US)$ fell 1.6% as growth stocks led markets lower. $S&P 500 index(.SPX.US)$dropped 1%. $Dow Jones Industrial Average(.DJI.US)$ lost 0.4%, or 128 points.
Stocks shot higher this week before retreating Friday, with investors parsing through a wave of central-bank decisions, corporate earnings and economic data over the past several days. Friday brought fresh information on U.S. hiring, giving investors more clues on how well the labor market is holding up as the economy slows elsewhere.
