Markets Priced in May’23 Hike As Fed Tackles High Inflation
According to Financial Times, investors now expect the Fed to raise interest rates to 5% in 2023, suggesting that the 🇺🇸economy will be hit harder than expected in order to tackle high inflation.
According to futures markets that track the federal funds rate, traders have fully priced in the benchmark policy rate reaching 5% in May next year, up from 4.6% before the latest inflation data released late last week🔥🥵
Expectations 🚀🚀🚀 after Sep’s CPI report showed an alarming acceleration in monthly price pressures across a broad array of everyday items & services. This unexpected jump in consumer price growth means that the Fed would yet again go for an aggressive increase at its next policy meeting in Nov, & deliver a 4th consecutive 75bps rate hike, the odds of which have been fully priced into the market.
⚠️ Since the CPI data release, there has been a massive sell-off & markets have plunged closed to June-lows.
➡️ Thus, some stocks have been oversold & investors looking for bargains have gone in to buy the dip, causing 1-2 day of relief rally amidst the sell-off. Hence, before Fed Nov meeting, I'm bullish for $NASDAQ(.IXIC)$
