The boom or bust or high risk high reward from meme stocks are not for me. I like to sleep well at night and know that my portfolio will generate passive income over long term.
My motto in investing is "Slow and Steady Wins The Race". So yes, I am very much a value investor with a long term horizon of at least 10 to 20 years.
I seek and invest in quality stocks that have wide moats, are profitable, strong balance sheet and excellent management. The best time to buy them is when they are on sale especially in Bear Markets. I embrace volatility as it is only then that I can buy these quality stocks below their intrinsic value. Then I simply hold them long term.
A good example is $DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$which I bought at 25.00 and its last closing price is 32. I am not selling it as I am holding it long term and I get to collect my dividends every 3 months. With the current yield at 4.40%, it is a great source of passive income.
I also like to buy and hold plain vanilla ETFs like $SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF(SPLG)$ and $SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 Value ETF(SPYV)$ which I dollar cost average on a regular basis. ETFs are wonderful investments as they are very well diversified, minimise my risks on single stocks. ETFs give me the maximum value for my money too.
Investing is not about winning a lottery. To me investing is like a marathon. It is a slow and steady process to achieve my goal of FIRE - Financial Independence Retire Early.
As Warren Buffett once wrote
"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago."
So I am planting my tree now and know that I will have a lovely shade in the future.
