Are Stocks Approaching a Correction? Fear Back, Topping Pattern Expected?
The stock market continued to fluctuate on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the S&P 500 index gaining 0.02% compared to last Friday’s closing price. Wednesday (29 May), we saw declined 0.74%. Last Thursday, the market sold off after a higher open, despite NVDA stock rallying by over 9% following its earnings release. On last Friday, the market rebounded, and since then it has been basically moving sideways. I would see this as part of consolidation process after series of good run, but are we seeing fear back in the market? If so, then, is it a topping pattern? I opened $SMH 20240628 230.0 PUT$ ,SMH: collect 0.85% premium for VanEck Semiconductor ETF on this covered put with target strike at $230 and expiring in 31 days on 28th June. I have several positions on SMH shorts and look to cover them should the ETF have reversals in the coming weeks. Currently most semiconductor counters were beneficiary of the AI tailwind and creating all time highs. Though the ETF looks extended and overbought, it could still continue to move higher on very positive Nvidia earnings and forecast and bring everyone along the ride.
TOP🤑 SMH seems overbought, but positive Nvidia earnings might push it further up.

SMCI had actually showing slight bearish movement by consolidating in the past 2 weeks despite very bullish movement on Nvidia which is the proxy for AI themed tailwinds. Will continue to trade cautiously on SMCI on shorter duration due to its high volatility and ATR at about 65 daily.

I opened $PLTR 20240628 19.5 PUT$ ,PLTR: collected 1.45% when sold cash secured put on PLTR with same strike of $19.5 and expiring in 31st days on the 28th June. PLTR seems to be consolidating with most moving averages compressing around the midpoint of $20.5. The selected strike was just a notch above its 200 days MA support and at the next of a large gap fill back to the $17.5 range. Looking for the $20 support to hold the line to continue profit else will either buy in the stock or roll further out depending on market situation and capital liquidity when the decision arises.

I opened $GOOG 20240628 180.0 CALL$ ,GOOG: collected 2% premium when sell covered call on GOOG with strike price at $180 and expiring in 31 days on the 28th June. The premium is higher as it’s almost at the money when call was sold. I have been holding this last batch of GOOG shares on lower average cost so happy to get them sold at $180 should GOOG moved higher. If not, the premium collected is acceptable too. $180 resistance seemed to be holding so far so it’s likely to be affected by the general market sentiments to move higher or lower in the coming weeks since earnings for this round was already announced on 25th Apr.
TOPThe $180 resistance level is worth keeping an eye on.

I opened $NVDA 20240607 1220.0 CALL$ ,NVDA: collect 0.8% premium when sold naked call on NVDA at $1220 and expiring in 9 days on 7th June. NVDA continued to be super bullish after a superb earnings, announcing both dividend and 1 to 10 stock splits that is highly favourable to the market sentiments. Sold this new call at higher strike above the $1200 resistance. This is also after a 7% rise on 28th May so certainly looks overbought. These won’t be enough to guarantee reversal so will very much depending on the general market direction with probably NVDA leading the way.

I opened $Abercrombie & Fitch(ANF)$ ,ANF: sold additional ANF shares at $180 to bring up short average after a big rise in stock price today after earnings. ANF is up 19% as of this writing on large earning beat. The short average is now increased from $114 to $122 which is still almost 40% under water. Will be a long way to dig myself out of this one. Trading is always never what you think it should be, but more what everyone’s else thinks it should be.
