Recently, I’ve heard that many people around me have participated in marathons.
What do you think is the reason more people are taking part in marathons in recent years?
Apart from the prize money mentioned above, the reasons for ordinary people running marathons vary.
In China, marathons have become popular for cosplay, with participants dressing in all kinds of costumes for fun.
Some people also say running a marathon is a way to improve their physical fitness.
After all, Lee Jae-myung, a key figure in the recent political upheaval in South Korea, is already 60 years old and was still able to run for 40 minutes in heavy snow and scale the walls into the National Assembly.
People say running and rock climbing are skills that can be useful for a lifetime.

They also want to beat their personal best timing which I personally used to do it.

I personally won’t join it as I don’t see why I should pay to run! I also lack the discipline to train for such long distances[LOL]
I used to run to stay fit but less so now due to work commitments. Also, with older age, im more worried about wearing out my knees prematurely and having to have knee replacements at a younger age.
Marathons are often social events, with participants joining friends or family. The fun factor, like dressing up in costumes, adds a playful element. Running also builds mental toughness, requiring focus and perseverance.
The global appeal of marathons lets people explore new places and meet others. Additionally, running offers mental health benefits, reducing stress and improving well-being. Marathon training provides structure, making it a regular fitness activity for many. In short, marathons offer personal growth, social interaction, and health benefits, making them appealing to many.
