[Events] What Made You Money in May: Swing Trading or HK IPOs?

TigerEvents
05-29

May was a strong month for the markets, and many Tigers saw their portfolios take off!

In U.S. markets, tech stocks led the rally:

πŸ“ˆ $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ surged +23.99%

πŸ“ˆ $Microsoft(MSFT)$ jumped +16.92%

πŸ“ˆ $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$soared +24.84%

Hot names popped one after another, creating great opportunities for swing traders.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong IPO market had its own highlights: New listings like $CATL(03750)$ , $BRETON(01333)$ , $HENGRUI PHARMA(01276)$ and $AUNTEA JENNY(02589)$ hit the market, and many users scored solid gains through IPO subscriptions via Tiger’s platform.

[Thinking] So here’s the question:

May is Done! How Do You Expect June Movement?
S&P 500 has risen 6.15% this month, marking its best monthly gain of the year. After April’s sell-off and May’s surge, did you make any money? There’s a saying: β€œSell in May and go away.” Will you follow it? Interestingly, the market clearly ignored that advice last year. However, June hasn’t historically been a standout month in terms of performance. Historically, the market has NEVER made the top for the year in the month of June. (since 1980) Will you continue to hold or take profits? Will June defy seasonal patterns, or see a temporary cooldown?

🌟🌟🌟If I have followed the saying "Sell in May and Go Away", I would have missed out on the best May ever in years!  The S&P500 marked its best recovery since 1993!  The US China Trade War saw a temporary tariff reduction, which boosted investor confidence.  AI Stocks especially Nvidia benefitted from the Middle East investments in US tech.

More importantly my favourite Singapore Bank DBS $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$ has done well in May too.  Its share is up almost 6% in May.  DBS has also reported an excellent Q1 25 earnings in May with total income up 6% year over rd year to a record SGD 5.91 billion, pre tax profit of SGD 3.44 billion at a record high too.

DBS has consistently rewarded me with capital growth as well as nice juicy dividends.  The current dividend yield is 5.07% which is a great source of passive income for me.

So May has been a phenomenal month for me!

My top performer in May was $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ , with a return of over 400%. I had built this position earlier based on strong conviction in Palantir’s growth in AI and data analytics. As their earnings beat expectations and investor sentiment improved, the stock surged β€” and I was well-positioned to benefit.

My approach combined long-term conviction with short-term swing trades. I held a core PLTR position but also added on dips and took profits on spikes. With the AI theme gaining traction, PLTR’s real-world applications stood out, attracting momentum traders and institutions alike.

I skipped the HK IPOs this time, as the U.S. tech rally offered better setups. Stocks like PLTR showed explosive moves, and my strategy focused on riding those trends while locking in profits along the way.
