The Santa Rally has begun in earnest in the aftermath of the US Mid term elections and a milder than expected inflation of 7.7% in October.

At the moment, it looks like the Republicans have won 211 seats versus 201 seats for the Democrats in the House of Representatives.  However it is neck to neck with 49 seats win by the Republicans and another 49 seats in favour of the Democrats in the Senate. So the general consensus by the political analysts is that the Republicans will gain control of the House while it is a tie breaker for the Senate.

This Mid Term Elections was supposed to be a "Red Wave" for the Republicans but in reality it was not.  It was also supposed to be  an endorsement  for Donald Trump to stage his triumphant return to retake back the White House.  But unfortunately it was not.  In fact Donald Trump faced unusual public attacks from the Republicans after a string of midterm losses by candidates he had handpicked and supported.

A new Republican candidate for the US  has appeared in the limelight.  His name is Ron DeSantis and he won his governorship of Florida by a landslide, winning 90 % of the votes.   Donald Trump calls him "Ron DeSanctimonious" but the New York Times calls him "DeFuture".  At 44 years old, he is much younger than 76 year old Trump and 80 year old Biden.

The New York Post called Donald Trump "Trumpty Dumpty" and beseeched others in the Republican Party to "put it back together again."

So if the Republicans win the House and the Democrats win the Senate, there will be a political gridlock.  It will make President Joe Buden's task much harder to push through his ambitious legislative agenda.

Nonetheless a divided Congress is good for the stock markets.  Historically the markets have risen in the year following the last 18 midterms, going way back to 1950.  Investors may be cheering the end of uncertainty from the midterms and balance of power when  both parties are sharing power.

So may the Santa Rally continue unabated to bring us a really Joyful and Merry Christmas and a Happy, Prosperous 2023.
