If I were eligible to vote in the US election, I would certainly refrain from supporting Trump and JD Vance. Their regressive views on women's roles and their apparent disregard for modern societal progress are wholly incompatible with my values and beliefs.

JD Vance’s Misogynistic Views: Stuck in the 1950s

Kia ora Tiger traders,

I recently watched "Hillbilly Elegy" to gain insight into JD Vance’s life and even contemplated purchasing the book for a more comprehensive understanding. However, a post on The Curve's Instagram caught my attention, prompting a deeper exploration into JD Vance’s views, which significantly altered my perception of him. Check out the post [here](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9xykslNyOZ/?igsh=MWc2bjVpcDkwM2t6dw==).

JD Vance, the "Hillbilly Elegy" author and current VP candidate with Donald Trump, has sparked heated debates with his archaic views on women, particularly those who are childless or working mothers. His statements seem to echo sentiments from the 1950s, as if he wishes to drag us back to an era when women were confined to the home and their worth was measured solely by their ability to bear children.

Vance has criticized women who prioritize their careers over having children, referring to them disparagingly as "childless cat ladies." He argues that such women lack a "direct stake" in the future of the country, implying that child-rearing is the only way for women to contribute to society. This outdated rhetoric ignores decades of progress and the invaluable contributions of women in all sectors of society [oai_citation:1,Attacking the left for choosing childlessness is fertile ground for a certain type of politician - New Statesman](https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/2021/08/attacking-left-choosing-childlessness-fertile-ground-certain-type-politician) [oai_citation:2,J.D. Vance's Misogynist Dog Whistle | Washington Monthly](https://washingtonmonthly.com/2021/07/28/j-d-vances-misogynist-dog-whistle/).

Furthermore, Vance has the audacity to suggest that parents should remain in unhappy or even violent marriages for the sake of their children. He dismisses the well-being of individuals in these marriages, prioritizing a twisted notion of family stability over personal safety and happiness. Vance's skepticism about the benefits of divorce for children is not only misguided but dangerously ignorant [oai_citation:3,J.D. Vance as Trump's VP Pick](https://www.tvinsider.com/1144000/the-view-july-16-jd-vance/).

Here's where it gets even more hypocritical: Vance's own family life stands in stark contrast to his public comments. His wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, is a successful lawyer, balancing her career with raising their three children. Clearly, in Vance's world, what's good for the goose isn't good for the gander. It seems his regressive views are reserved for everyone else's wives, not his own [oai_citation:5,J.D. Scathing Criticism from Various Sources

1. New Statesman: Criticized Vance for focusing on the fertility factor, suggesting that his views are reminiscent of a time when women's worth was solely tied to childbearing [oai_citation:7,Attacking the left for choosing childlessness is fertile ground for a certain type of politician - New Statesman](https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/2021/08/attacking-left-choosing-childlessness-fertile-ground-certain-type-politician).

2. The View: Joy Behar lambasted Vance's stance, highlighting how his views on staying in abusive marriages and restricting abortion rights are not only dangerous but completely out of touch with modern values [oai_citation:8,'The View' Hosts React to J.D. Vance as Trump's VP Pick](https://www.tvinsider.com/1144000/the-view-july-16-jd-vance/).

3. Washington Monthly: Described Vance's use of terms like "weird cat ladies" as a misogynistic dog whistle aimed at pandering to the far-right, misogynist base [oai_citation:9,J.D. Vance's Misogynist Dog Whistle | Washington Monthly](https://washingtonmonthly.com/2021/07/28/j-d-vances-misogynist-dog-whistle/).

You are very welcome & thank you for taking the time to read my post. As Francis Bacon wisely said, “The truth is the daughter of time.” Meaning that no matter how concealed the truth might be, it will eventually emerge, shining brightly through the shadows! What a long retrogressive shadow 4 Trump!

OMG BC! I never realised this! I was utterly appalled when I read your post about JD Vance. It’s astonishing that someone with such regressive, patriarchal views holds a position of influence in 2024. His perspective is not only antiquated but fundamentally dismissive of the strides women have made in achieving equality. It’s infuriating to witness such blatant misogyny still being perpetuated. Thank you for bringing this to light; we must remain vigilant and vocal against such backward ideologies. Together, we can continue to advocate for a progressive and equitable society.

  • I totally agree with you @Tui Jude and BC! Thank you for keying me into Vance's views! I never knew this and I can’t believe I felt sorry for him after watching the movie where his Grandmother was abused and now he advocates for women to stay in abusive relationships! This is abhorrent! Let alone his outrageous and outdated narrative about Women and especially Women who choose not to have children OR CANT have them! If I was voting it certainly wouldn’t be for him! I'm disgusted also!
