If you could have one trading superpower, which would you choose?

  • 🅰️ Perfect Entry: Always buy at the absolute bottom. No more buying the dip only to watch it dip again.

  • 🅱️ Perfect Exit: Always sell at the absolute top. No more selling too early and watching a stock take off.

Bonus question: What's your best (or worst) attempt at timing the market?

I’d choose 🅰️ Perfect Entry — but I’d still hold for the long term.

Buying at the bottom offers a better margin of safety and less emotional pressure during volatility. But even the perfect entry means nothing if you sell a great business too early.

My biggest lesson from market timing? A stock can look expensive before it doubles, and cheap before falling another 30%. The market doesn’t care about our predictions; it rewards patience when the investment thesis is right.

Historical data shows that missing just a handful of the market’s strongest days can significantly reduce long-term returns. Those rallies often happen when investors are still fearful.

My strategy now: stop chasing perfect prices. Build positions gradually, keep cash for genuine opportunities, and focus on business quality and valuation.

The real superpower isn’t predicting every turn. It’s staying rational when everyone else loses their nerve.

    🅱️ Perfect Exit.
Most traders spend years learning risk management, but even a great stock pick means little if you don't know when to take profits. Buying near the bottom is helpful, but catching the absolute top would maximise every winning trade and remove the regret of selling too early.

My worst market-timing attempt? Buying "the dip" after a 15% drop... then watching it fall another 30%. That's when I learned the market has more dips than my favourite hotpot sauce 😂

I would choose A, Perfect Entry. Buying a good company at a lower price gives me a better cost basis and more room for long-term returns. Of course, nobody can consistently predict the absolute bottom, so I prefer dollar-cost averaging and adding on pullbacks rather than trying to time the market perfectly.

My worst attempt at timing the market was buying too early during a dip, only to watch the stock fall further. It taught me that even when the long-term thesis is right, the entry price still matters, and patience is essential.

These days, I focus more on fundamentals, technical support levels and risk management. I would rather build a position gradually and stay disciplined than chase the perfect entry. For me, consistency beats perfection in the long run.

I would choose B: Perfect Exit.

Buying at the absolute bottom would be amazing, but I do not think a perfect entry is necessary to make a good investment. If the fundamentals are strong, buying reasonably close to the bottom can still produce excellent returns.

Knowing the exact top seems far more valuable. It eliminates one of the hardest decisions in investing: deciding when optimism has gone too far. I could let winners run without worrying about selling too early, then exit before the reversal.

My worst attempts at market timing usually come from waiting for an even better entry. Sometimes the market rebounds before my target is reached, and I end up buying higher or missing the opportunity altogether.

So definitely B for me. I can tolerate an imperfect entry, but give me the perfect exit! 😂
