Short selling is no stranger to Tesla. The company's stock has been a very popular short in recent years. The bears don't believe Tesla can popularize electric vehicles and fund its operations with internally generated cash flow. But Tesla has done both.
Since 2020, Tesla has been firmly at the top of the U.S. stock short list, and the short position of Tesla has continued to increase, making Tesla the first stock in human history with a short position exceeding $20 billion.

To Bill Gates, shorting Tesla is just a trade, nothing more. But to Elon Musk, it is a personal affront to himself. Nonetheless it looks like Elon Musk may have the last laugh as Tesla's shares have shot up 20% just in the last few days.
In future, Bill Gates' new nickname can possibly be Bill "Big Short" Gates after Michael Burry's famous gameplay "The Big Short". 😁😁😁

Bill and Tesla
//@koolgal: Bill Gates and Michael Burry seem to have a common interest - Both love to short Tesla shares! According to Bill Gates, shorting Tesla has nothing to do with the environment. It is just simply an investment strategy. Bill Gates also said that " The popularity of electric cars will lead to more competition for selling those cars. So there is a difference between electric cars being adopted and companies becoming infinitely valuable."Bill Gates maybe known by his new nickname now - "Bill Gates The Big Short"! 😁😁😁@MillionaireTiger @TigerStars @CaptainTigerMoreso ElOn is a capitaliSt

It's just being done the reverse way
Musk's ego and wealth is hurt by Gates' actions and he's not happy about it
since tesla is advertised to be environmental friendly,so he is just joking that his investment against tesla is also equally environmental friendly
