Monday Afternoon Market Recap

• Major U.S. indexes swung for much of the trading session before finishing mixed. The S&P 500 lost 10.71 points, or 0.2%, to 4373.94 on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 166.15 points, or 0.5%, to 33892.60. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index turned higher, adding 56.77 points, or 0.4%, to 13751.40.
• On the commodities front, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose about 5% to around $95.91 per barrel on Monday. The April Brent crude futures contract rose more than 3% to $101.10 per barrel. Natural gas futures dipped slightly.
• Defense stocks like Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman rose 6.7% and 7.9%, respectively. Cybersecurity stocks also outperformed, with Crowdstrike jumping 7.4%, helping limit losses for the Nasdaq.Bank stocks were under pressure, with JPMorgan falling 4.2% and Citigroup dropping 4.4%.

Today's Headlines

• Shares of the video conferencing company ticked 2% lower in extended trading on Monday after issuing full-yearguidancebelow what analysts had predicted. Zoom, however, reported earnings of $1.29 per share on revenue of $1.017 billion. Analysts expected earnings of $1.06 on revenue of $1.046 billion, according to Refinitiv.Zoom shares fell as much as 13%in extended trading on Monday.
• Looking to Tuesday, big box retailer Target reports earnings before the bell and cloud giant Salesforce reports after the close.
• On the economic front, February’s Markit Manufacturing PMI will be released at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. ISM manufacturing PMI for February will be out at 10:00 a.m.
