US Shutdown Ends - Dow Up, NVDA Down.
Wall Street's major averages ended mixed on Wed, 12 Nov 2025.
By the time 4pm came around:
-
DJIA: +0.65% (+326.86 to 48,254.82). Reached a new record high close.
-
S&P 500: +0.06% (+4.31 to 6,850.92).
-
Nasdaq: -0.26% (-61.84 to 23,406.457). Still in red as megacap tech stocks lagged.
Optimism came to the Dow Jones Industrial Average seemed to be linked to the prospect of US government shutdown’s ending.
Most agree the shutdown has cost the US economy about $7 billion - $16 billion each week.
Strange enough, both Republican and Democrats remain unhappy with what's going on.
Financial stocks that hit new intraday highs and lifted the Dow included:
-
$Goldman Sachs(GS)$ rising by +3.5%.
-
$JPMorgan Chase(JPM)$ rose by +1.4%.
-
$Morgan Stanley(MS)$ up by +2.0%.
Tech stocks - $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ also helped to lift US market higher, ending +8.9% higher on Wednesday, after it iterated that AI spending is unlikely to slow down anytime soon.
Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the following tech stocks:
-
$Paramount Skydance Corp(PSKY)$ fell by -7.8%,
-
Palantir (PLTR) fell by -3.6%.
-
Oracle (ORCL) fell by -4%.
Lately, tech stocks have come under pressure as investors fear a bubble that could burst.
-
This is because US market at the moment, is incredibly pricey from a valuation standpoint and lots of “valuation” has largely been driven by hype centered around AI, said Analyst - Daniel Jones said.
-
Short seller Michael Burry betting $1.1 billion against Nvidia and Palantir contributed to US market volatility.
-
Believe it or not, Softbank sale of its entire Nvidia’s stake as reported on Tue, 11 Nov 2025 for $5.83 billion further added toNasdaq’s woes. (see below)
-
The end of US government shutdown will ease things a bit, and US economy heading towards a recession - is imminent.
-
Any disconnect between US market moving higher and US economy worsening will almost certainly break in favour of the economy.
-
Resulting in a decline in US market at worst OR a flatlining for an extended period at best.
US Bond Market.
Despite the recent -0.25% interest cut by the Fed in November 2025,
-
US 10-year Treasury yield (US10Y) remained “elevated” at 4.07%, even though it was was down -6 basis points.
-
Meanwhile the 2-year yield (US2Y) fell -3 basis points to 3.57%.
-
FYI, the recent auction of $42 billion tranche of 10-Year Note Auction saw weaker demand than expected, partly linked to a drop in demand from foreign institutions. Wonder why ?
NVDA - Hanging Tough.
-
Over the past 5 days, Nvidia's stock showed moderate volatility..
-
It fluctuated between roughly $188 & $195 per share.
-
The movement was definitely affected by mixed market sentiment, (1) driven by Michael Burry's massive short positions against it and (2) ongoing debates about the AI chip demand outlook.
-
Despite the fluctuations, Nvidia remains above its 50-day moving average, reflecting underlying investor confidence amid near-term turbulence.
-
Personally, I will still be holding onto my Nvidia. (see below)
I strongly believe when 19 Nov 2025 comes around, when NVDA reports its third quarter earnings, all will be vindicated and euphoria will return.

Do you think US market will remain jittery all this week ’?
-
Do you think NVDA Q3 earnings will dwarf Burry’s short on it and make the short seller run for the hills come next week ?
