      My investing muse - when is an earnings beat worse?

      @KYHBKO
      My investing muse - when an earnings beat does not imply that the business is getting better, interest rate, PCE & Tesla The above is the recent history of earnings forecast of AMD covering EPS and revenue. For the history above, we can notice that the single best quarter for AMD was the quarter ending June 2022 when the earnings beat both EPS and revenue forecast. In fact, it was the recent quarterly high for revenue at 6.55B and one of the highest quarterly EPS at 1.05. For the following quarters, the forecast for both EPS and revenue has not matched this Q2/2022 peak. This means that a double beat does not always mean that it is doing better than previous earnings. Bringing down the estimate is one of the ways to achieve an earnings beat. Ideally, we are hoping that there will be

      Public Holidays No public holidays for Hong Kong, Singapore the US & China in the coming week. Economic Calendar (24Jul2023) Economic Calendar for the week starting 24 Jul 2023 Notable Highlights Fed interest rate decision should be the most watched macro news for the coming week. With the Fed predicting another 2 more interest rate hikes, it is speculated that the market is expecting a rate hike of 25bps. How will the market respond to this? The tone of the speech during the announcement may be a key reference. If the tone is largely hawkish, the market may not respond kindly to this. PCE - This is the Fed’s preferred indicator coming to inflation and the forecast (MoM) is a persistent 0.2% growth. This is an important data point as the Fed uses this as an important reference fo

      Tesla Stock Price Fall Again, Like The Past?

      @JC888
      $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ released its Q2 2023 earnings on Wed 19 Jul 2023 after US market closed. This was followed by a press conference to answer queries that analysts, wall street professionals may have. Reactions on the following 2 days - Thu, 20 Jul & Fri, 21 Jul best summed up Wall Street sentiments. They did not like all the negatives stemming from the clarifications session. Does this signal the beginning of another Tesla correction? Below are some possible catalysts that I think might spur decline: (1) Q3 2023 EV volume will be reduced. During Q2 earnings press conference, mr musk announced that in Q3 2023, the giga factories will shutdown for factory improvements. (see above). Meaning output and delivery will be affected. U.S. News & World Report More Citigroup's 1Q Profit Surpasses Projections Aside from its high dividend, Citigroup also looks like a value stock at current levels, trading for less than eight times forward earnings and just 0.48 times book value.(GETTY IMAGES) The year 2022 was a lousy one for the stock market. Even after factoring in dividends, the S&P 500 fell 19.4% in those 12 months, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite took a 33.1% haircut. The catalysts behind Wall Street's sell-off are all too familiar: Inflation, soaring interest rates, persistent recession fears and the Russia-Ukraine war snowballed into an avalanche of worries that investors couldn't ignore, and many previously high-flying stocks took a beating as the "risk off" mindset came to dominate markets. If you are looking for a stock that has a solid history of beating earnings estimates and is in a good position to maintain the trend in its next quarterly report, you should consider Tesla (TSLA). This company, which is in the Zacks Automotive - Domestic industry, shows potential for another earnings beat. When looking at the last two reports, this electric car maker has recorded a strong streak of surpassing earnings estimates. The company has topped estimates by 5.79%, on average, in the last two quarters. For the most recent quarter, Tesla was expected to post earnings of $0.83 per share, but it reported $0.85 per share instead, representing a surprise of 2.41%.
