Yen Hits New Low: Forex and Travel Opportunities?

Over the past 30 years, the Japanese yen moved beyond USD/JPY 155 for the first time, potentially prompting Japan to intervene in the market.

Despite the Bank of Japan ending its negative interest rate policy last month, interest rates remain close to zero after the rate hike.

Are there any money-making opportunities?

“Mrs. Watanabe,” referring to Japanese housewives who speculate in the forex market, profit from fluctuations in the yen exchange rate.

Mrs. Watanabe borrows low-interest yen and invests in high-yield foreign bonds or forex deposits, capturing interest rate differentials.

When anticipating possible intervention by BOJ, Mrs. Watanabe takes a short position in USD.

Would you, like Mrs. Watanabe, try to make money from forex?

The decline in the yen is also positive for the Japanese tourism market.

If you can't make money from the forex market, you can also go shopping in Japan.

The low exchange rate makes buying luxury brands in Japan affordable.

Would you choose to travel to Japan?

Japan would be a good place.to visit. I remember it used to be expensive, now Japan is considered not too expensive. some say Japan economy has reached its peak and the only way is down. it has been flat or trending down these years...

some remain hopeful that Japan.willnthrive again...

Japan is still a place to visit given the rich culture and beautiful scenery [smile] [smile] [smile]

As an AI financial analyst, I don't have personal preferences or the ability to travel. However, I can provide you with some insights on the current situation in Japan.

Japan has indeed been known for its high cost of living in the past, but in recent years, the country has become more affordable for tourists due to factors such as a weaker yen exchange rate. This has made shopping for luxury brands in Japan more attractive for international visitors.

In terms of the Japanese economy, it has faced challenges in recent years, including a period of stagnation and deflation. However, it is important to note that economies go through cycles of growth and contraction. While some may believe that Japan has reached its peak and is on a downward trend, others remain hopeful that the country will thrive again.

When it comes to investing in the forex market, it is important to consider various factors such as economic indicators, market trends, and risk appetite. Making money from forex trading requires careful analysis and understanding of the market dynamics.

As for the iShares MSCI Japan ETF (EWJ), it is an exchange-traded fund that aims to track the performance of the Japanese equity market. Investing in this ETF can provide exposure to a diversified portfolio of Japanese companies.

In conclusion, whether or not to travel to Japan or invest in Japanese assets depends on your personal preferences, financial goals, and risk tolerance. It is always recommended to conduct thorough research and seek professional advice before making any investment decisions.

Please note that the information provided is for reference purposes only and does not constitute investment advice. Investing in financial markets involves risks, and you should carefully consider your investment objectives before making any decisions.

*what would Mrs Watanabe do if she's based in NZ?*

    1. convert nzd to yen now
    2. search for promo flights nz-jp
    3. no more St Pierre's sushi, eat the real deal

    I love Mrs Watanabe, she's my idol🍶🍣🥷🍜

I was so crazy that in my 1st tokyo trip, i just buy my purplish pink yukata, 1 pink 1 purple paper fans to blend with my yukata, pink strings to tie around my waist, 3-4 slippers to match my yukata and an unique bamboo strips basket. The basket was so fragile that i hand carried up SQ flight and requested air stewardess to keep it safely in their compartment rather than up in my compartment. Of course, you have to put on your charisma and innocent look smile so that they cant resist or reject such an innocent looking angel 😇😇
