🚨 Intel’s 18A Disaster: PC Chips Delayed, Prices Soar!

Intel’s 18A Delays Turn Intel 7 into Supply Bottleneck

$Intel(INTC)$

Intel’s rollout of its 18A process technology is lagging behind expectations, forcing the company to continue relying on Intel 7—a node originally intended as a temporary solution. With 18A not yet in mass production, Intel depends on Intel 7 to support multiple product lines, creating unexpected pressure on the supply chain.

Server CPUs Prioritized, Consumer Markets Feel the Pinch

To maintain profitability, Intel is prioritizing high-margin server CPUs, leaving desktop and laptop markets facing tighter supplies and even price increases. Popular processors, including the 13th and 14th Gen Core series, as well as Xeon 6 and 5th Gen Xeon Scalable, all rely on Intel 7 for I/O.

Production Constraints and Packaging Shortages Worsen Pressure

Intel has not expanded older-node capacity, and packaging substrate shortages further exacerbate production bottlenecks. CFO Zinsner acknowledged that while demand is recovering, shipments remain constrained by manufacturing and packaging limitations.

Consumer Processors May Face Delays Through Early 2026

In the coming quarters, Intel will continue prioritizing high-end server chips, meaning entry- and mid-tier processors could see delays or limited availability. AI and data center markets are likely to continue receiving resource preference, potentially costing general consumers more in the meantime.
