SK Hynix: A Record Quarter, a 13% Stock Surge

SK Hynix reported quarterly revenue of 104.6 trillion won and operating profit of 83.3 trillion won, with an operating margin approaching 80%. Yet net income plunged 58%. Despite the sharp decline in net income, the company’s U.S.-listed shares surged 13.3% on Oct. 28, while its South Korean shares rose 10.89%. The rally extended across the semiconductor sector, lifting Samsung Electronics 9.01%, Micron Technology 5.86% and SanDisk 7.66%. The market’s reaction reflected confidence in SK Hynix’s underlying operating performance rather than its headline net income. Strong shipment guidance, rising memory prices and progress in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) reinforced the company’s position in the AI supply chain. But the results also raise broader questions. For me, confirmation would require more than another earnings beat. I would want to see HBM demand remain supply-constrained, NAND and DRAM pricing continue improving, and data-centre demand broaden beyond a handful of hyperscalers. SanDisk will be particularly useful for testing whether strength is spreading from AI memory into enterprise storage. Rising enterprise SSD volumes and prices, improving margins and strong free cash flow would strengthen the case. The biggest signal would be capacity growth remaining disciplined despite high prices. Memory cycles often turn when strong pricing encourages excessive supply. If SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron can expand HBM while avoiding an uncontrolled increase in conventional memory capacity, the upcycle could have considerably further to run.

$SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$ is well-positioned to ride the AI memory wave tonight, but the bar to trigger a post-earnings stock rally is exceptionally high. We saw $Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(SSNLF)$ fell roughly 5% due to a lack of immediate buyback details and a slightly more conservative long-term outlook compared to $SK hynix(SKHY)$. AI’s biggest risk may not be slowing growth, but the rising cost of sustaining it. Investors celebrate accelerating revenue and cloud demand, yet overlook the billions needed to build data centers, purchase chips and secure computing capacity. Revenue growth alone cannot prove that an AI business creates economic value. The real test is whether incremental revenue generates enough operating cash to cover capital expenditure while delivering attractive returns on invested capital. This explains why AI leaders can receive different market reactions despite strong earnings. Investors are pricing tomorrow’s profitability, not just today’s growth. If spending rises faster than cash generation, impressive results may disappoint. My focus is on free cash flow, capital expenditure efficiency and

My focus is C: waiting for confirmation of orders and cash flow. AI infrastructure creates two opportunities. SK Hynix benefits from high-bandwidth memory and premium pricing. Seagate benefits from growing data-storage needs. However, record earnings do not guarantee attractive valuations. SK Hynix faces rising capital expenditure and future supply expansion, while Seagate’s margins depend on pricing discipline and HAMR adoption. The key question is whether profits remain sustainable as competitors expand capacity. Seagate’s $1.48 billion quarterly free cash flow is encouraging, while SK Hynix’s long-term customer agreements improve demand visibility. My conclusion: AI storage is becoming a real earnings story, not merely a market narrative. I would prioritize sustainable cash flow, pricin

AI Concerns Weighed on Equities and Increased Safe Haven Demand like US Treasuries; China Government Bonds To Benefit from Policy Support and Strengthening RMB 【 CSOP SG Weekly 】

【Money Market Fund】 US$ MMF Net 7-day Yield: +3.70%* During the week, US Treasury yields moved lower across the curve over the past week as concerns around AI-related equities outweighed the impact of higher oil prices, which led to a rise in safe-haven demand. With the FOMC in its pre-meeting blackout period, markets saw only less than 10% probability of an October rate hike, showcasing broad expectations that Fed remain on hold in October. Looking ahead, attention turns to the 28 October FOMC meeting. * 7-day net yield is calculated based on calendar days and NAVs in 5-decimal. 【REITs】 $CSOP iEdge SREIT ETF S$(SRT.SI)$ YTD total return: -9.07% As of 23 Oct 2026, SRT gained 1.49% WTD, bringing its YTD total return to-9.07%. How To Navigate Memory Earnings Super-Cycle: Key Semiconductor Players, AI Infrastructure Dynamics, and ETF Allocation Strategies

As $SK hynix(SKHY)$ SK Hynix prepares to report its third-quarter financial results on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, $Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.(SSNLF)$ Samsung Electronics steps up immediately afterward to take the baton in the global memory earnings week. In this article, we would like to share an analysis that evaluates memory pure-plays, peripheral chip leaders, ETF strategies, and the $Philadelphia Semiconductor Index(SOX)$ iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOX) outlook. 1. The Global Memory Super-Cycle Setting The global semiconductor industry stands at a pivotal juncture in late 2026. The memory landscape has undergone a fundamental structural shift: standard c

Memory Earnings Week Is Here. I Am Watching SanDisk, Not Just SK Hynix.

Memory is waking up again. SK Hynix +4.05% Friday. Micron +2.46%. And Monday pre-market: MU ~$901 SNDK ~$1,267 But this week's earnings are about something much bigger than which memory stock beats estimates. For months, the memory bull case has rested heavily on one product: HBM. AI accelerators need enormous amounts of high-bandwidth memory, supply remains constrained, and SK Hynix and Micron have benefited enormously. But for the next leg of the memory trade to become broader and more durable, I want evidence that strength is spreading. HBM → DRAM → enterprise SSD → NAND → storage This week may finally tell us whether that is happening. 🟢 SK HYNIX: THE HBM BENCHMARK SK Hynix reports first. I care less about whether EPS beats consensus and more about three questions: 1. Is HBM demand sti
