Yes invest is not gamble but many aspects create situation as if based on luck.
I love being an investor, dont have to think how to run the company just make sure pick the right company, check the dividend history. I always think good co will treasure it’s investor by giving good dividend, coz shareholder wait till the co grow, they deserve dividend when co is doing well. Same when business is weak, investor need to wait/sell at loss but that does not effect the business. Until the business needs fresh loan/funds then investors will decide positive/negative ? stock price can either drop or accelerate... so sounds by luck, but actually depends on the news, the company performance and the responses from investors. I just wish we are all can be in green, but it seems impossible because this is a zero game too.

However, shareholder's mentality doesn't mean you grow attached to the company. This is where you defer from the owner. It is important, because if you sense that the management team is not up to the mark, that is when you cut and run... Loving a company which does not love you back could be a nightmare!
Finally, a shareholder's mentality helps one to take a long term view of the company, rather than treating it like dollars and cents. It helps one to better understand the company and if it aligns with your own.
