because to fight and control inflationary pressure Singapore has to strengthen our sing dollar such that our imports can become cheaper but on the other hand sing dollar cannot be too overvalued otherwise our exports will become too expensive and others may not purchase from us . it's a delicate balance

MAS has indeed utilitised the monetary policy well and navigated Singapore out of the past crises. For those who aren’t as familiar with the monetary framework in Singapore, the monetary policy is exchange rate centre which MAS manages the Singapore dollar against a basket of currencies (which is trade weighted) with an objective appreciate over the long run.
Given that Singapore is a heavily dependent on trade and reliant on imports, it is logical that Singapore ensures a stable currency to combat imported inflation. For e.g, an appreciation of the SGD against currencies of our major trading partners reduces the cost of imported goods, which reduces the prices that Singaporeans or local companies pay.
