All in one stock or diversify risk?

According to this graph,

Only 4% of investors would all in one stock.

2% of them are talents and would make huge profits from one stock.

Just like we have seen a lot of stories of reaping millions of profits from $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$ .

Instead of “Magnificent 7”, some called Nvidia as “Magnificent 1”. Nvidia has been hitting new highs, just one step from $900.

Some even said Buffet has 50% of Berkshires portfolio in $Apple(AAPL)$ . He bought most of it in 2016, and it is up 600%.

But another 2% of them may lose all their funds on some doomed stocks like $AMC Entertainment(AMC)$ .

An investor earned 100,000 in the short squeeze of AMC and lost all of the profits a month later. And there are more pathetic stories.

96% of investors choose to diversify their portfolio.

The most important reason is that retail investors don’t understand the market nor the companies. So they diversify the money to prevent risks.

There are quotes like:

"Diversification is protection against ignorance"

"Diversification is for the amateur, not the professional investor."

Would you all in one stock like the “Magnificent 1”?

Or would you diversify risk?

Definitely not all in one for me! As the saying goes, never put all your eggs in one basket. I normally would diversify risk. In fact, I find it hard to continually keep up with all the news and the company’s performance. I also prefer not to see big swings in the stock price and its impact on my portfolio. I prefer to see steady growth with time. Thus, my usual preference is to buy ETF.

Well, personally I used to be a ALL IN style investor. Why should we waste so many time and effort to invest in several stocks while we are allowed to choose the best one and all in? However, over the time with more investing experience, the ALL IN strategy doesn't sustain throughout our whole investment journey. If we ALL IN, we are not allow to make any single mistake else we will catch by a big Hit!

Even though we are 100% sure that the company is doing well, but we never know if there will be any unexpected black swam issue that might simply cause the stock to plunge suddenly. So, by diversify your portfolio, you distribute the potential risk and it is more sustainable to invest this way in long run.

Diversification is a risk management strategy that creates a mix of various investments within a portfolio. A diversified portfolio contains a mix of distinct asset types and investment vehicles in an attempt to limit exposure to any single asset or risk.

Or would I diversify risk? It all depends on how much money I have for the investment. The 96% of investors that choose to diversify their portfolio are very wise. The professional fund managers might ask their clients to invest all with them, saying "Diversification is for the amateur, not the professional investor.” However, Warren Buffett said, “Diversification is definitely protection against ignorance. “

I abide by the principle of never put all eggs in one basket. Rather than investing all my funds into a single stock, I opt to diversify my investment portfolio. This approach minimises the risk associated with relying solely on one investment.

  • All in one stock is high risk.
And we know high risk can generate high return, only if you pick the right one.
So, can you pick the right one every time? [Chuckle]

I will be the all in one investor as my funds is limited and to diversify my portfolio, i will not able to earn much from my investments but all into one i can fully focus on this share alone and getting most out from it. I had made from PLTR more than doubled from my initial investment from last year. 😁

Definitely to diversify! Our aim is to stay in the game and keep our gains and money. Portfolio stays alive during crashes and busts. No outperformance necessary. Time will compound our gains!

Portfolio diversification is a strategic approach to investing where assets are spread across various sectors, classes, and geographies to mitigate risk. It's akin to not putting all your eggs in one basket, ensuring that a loss in one area doesn't spell disaster for the entire portfolio. Diversification can protect and stabilize returns over time. 📊

If you have the appetite to go all in one stock, might as well go all in one crypto coin. $NVIDIA Corp(NVDA)$ has gone up almost 100% but SOL has gone up almost 7x in the past 6 months. Some smaller coins have probably gone up 10x or more. Go big or go home!!!

    96%的投资者选择分散投资组合。

    最重要的原因是散户投资者不了解市场,也不了解公司。所以他们分散资金以防范风险。

Diversification is for me. Unless, i m a billionaire like Taylor Swift [Chuckle] where i will place 0.0001% of my wealth on “Magnificent 1”. Even if i lose it, it doesnt impact me. Otherwise, for any commoners, it is still a safe bet to spread the eggs across many baskets.

Definitely is diversifying my profolio.  I will like to invest in different sector and try to minimise the risk. sometimes I had the thought of being Magnificent 1 as all my holding is in red, why not just focus on one stock? Go big or go home [LOL] [Facepalm] but I still prefer to diversify [Thinking]

    分散是肯定的,但是也不能太过分散,不然会拉低回酬,或者不能兼顾太多公司。我觉得5~8个最多,以资金大小来决定

    我觉得肯定是要分散的。不能全部押注一个公司。除非你是老板蛤。因为你永远不懂会不会有什么意外或突发事件导致你亏大钱。

    Warren Buffett has made a quite clear guideline on this issue;
If you know very very well about the business and predict its future with precision, you may put a significant portion of your wealth in an individual stock.
Otherwise, you must diversify because "Diversification is protection against ignorance."
