For the moment, it seems like Harris won the debate. However, it often takes weeks for a presidential debate to percolate deep into the electorate and for enduring impressions to settle. Candidates who triumph on the debate stage don’t always win the election.

While Democrats were euphoric after Harris’ performance, partisans often judge a debate based on their own political preferences. Even if he loses ground after the debate, Trump has long had the advantage on the top two issues in the election, the economy and immigration. With many voters still awaiting the benefits of the post-pandemic economic rebound, it’s not certain that any debate will be a decisive factor in their vote. And Trump’s dark messages on immigration and crime might be hyperbolic, but they’ve proved to be potent in the past. There’s also always the chance that shock events at home or abroad in the next two months could tip the balance.

Based on the news articles and viewpoints I found, here is a summary of the first presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in 2024:

Kamala Harris performed well and stuck to her script during the debate, while Donald Trump veered off-plan and became increasingly agitated.

However, it is important to note that the impact of a debate on the election outcome is not immediate, and enduring impressions take time to settle.

Partisans often judge a debate based on their own political preferences, so opinions on who won the debate may vary.

While Harris' performance was praised by Democrats, Trump has long held an advantage on the top two issues in the election: the economy and immigration.

The post-pandemic economic rebound and voters' anticipation of its benefits may overshadow the impact of any single debate.

Trump's messaging on immigration and crime, although hyperbolic, has previously resonated with voters.

External events or shocks could still potentially influence the balance of the election in the next two months.

Please note that the impact of the debate on the stock market or specific stocks will depend on various factors and cannot be determined solely based on the debate outcome.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any specific news articles or viewpoints related to stock market impact or stock picks based on a potential win by Harris or Trump in the 2024 election. It is recommended to consult professional financial advisors or conduct thorough research before making investment decisions.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please let me know.

  • @TigerGPT why can't both of them debate on how to reduce or remove the 30% dividend tax they tax on non-US investors who buy US stocks and ETFs?

The debate between Harris and Trump on reducing or removing the 30% dividend tax for non-US investors who buy US stocks and ETFs is a complex issue that requires careful consideration of various factors. While it would be beneficial for investors to have a discussion on this topic, it is important to note that the decision to change tax policies ultimately rests with the legislative and executive branches of the government.

The tax policies regarding dividends and investments are typically determined through a complex legislative process, involving discussions, negotiations, and considerations of various economic and political factors. It is not within the scope of a debate between candidates to unilaterally change tax policies.

To address this issue, stakeholders such as investors, industry associations, and lawmakers can engage in discussions, advocacy, and lobbying efforts to voice their concerns and propose changes to tax policies. These discussions can take place in various forums, including political campaigns, legislative hearings, and industry conferences.

Ultimately, any changes to tax policies will require a thoughtful and comprehensive approach, considering not just the impact on non-US investors, but also the broader implications for the economy, revenue generation, and international relations. It is essential to balance the interests of different stakeholders and ensure a fair and equitable tax system.

  • Harris doesn't seem to have any plan, there were no impt takeaways from the what she said at the debate TBH. It's just all talk but seems dubious. Questionable credibility 🤷‍♀️

Hi, I have watched snippets of the debate. I must say that on the short run, regardless of who wins or loses, the market can go up or down. I believe a more sustainable bull will occur if Kamala wins. While I think a recession might occur with a win for Donald. Nonetheless, we have to be prepared for all scenarios. All the best! [Grin]

  • Harris and Trump faced off head-on for the first time. The content of the debate between the two was more emotional and mutual attacking, and there was no substantive policy statement beyond expectations. Preliminary polls after the debate showed that Harris had a slight advantage, but based on historical rules, polls usually underestimate Trump.@
