      Is Sea in danger now?

$Sea Ltd(SE)$ released its Q3 financial report for 2023. The three main business segments - gaming, e-commerce, and finance - showed mixed results. While the gaming sector remained profitable, the e-commerce division experienced a significant decline in profits, and the finance segment performed well but relied heavily on e-commerce.Although the market had already anticipated that Shopee would return to losses and erase this year's profits by focusing on volume over price, it was surprising to see that the losses were even greater than expected. This has raised doubts among investors regarding the growth achieved through this strategy. As a result, Sea opened at a -12% decline in the US stock market and continued to drop throughout the day, ultimatel

5 reasons Sea limited a great company hope it will beat earnings

Sea Limited (SE) appears to be a promising stock poised to beat earnings for several reasons.  First and foremost, the recent decision by Indonesia to restrict TikTok's role in e-commerce bodes well for Sea Limited. With TikTok's influence limited, Sea Limited can focus on its other revenue streams, potentially leading to increased earnings in the Indonesian market. Furthermore, Sea Limited's strategic move into the financial sector with MariBank is noteworthy.  The establishment of MariBank allows Sea Limited to bolster its cash reserves at a low-interest rate of 2.88%. This move is advantageous as it not only provides Sea Limited with additional financial flexibility but also contributes to reducing their overall cost of borrowing. Lowering borrowing costs is a key financial s

      Sea's valuation (Updated)

Previously, when valuing $Sea Ltd(SE)$ I based on the Q1 and Q2 earnings as well as the market's overall expectations for 2023 and 2024. However, things are always subject to change. Even Forrest Li Xiaodong may not have anticipated such significant market changes in just a few quarters, causing the Southeast Asian e-commerce throne to become unstable. Although it's not a complete disaster, intense competition can make the company's overall profit margin very unstable. Of course, it's not impossible that Sea's executives intentionally created a profit illusion in Q1 and Q2, sacrificing the performance of the following quarters and adopting an unsustainable approach of living off reserves. My previous bear case did not consider significant volatility

E-commerce in Southeast Asia and China is set for significant growth in the coming years, with expectations of continued expansion in these regions. Sea, headquartered in Singapore, is the parent company of Shopee, a prominent e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia. Reflecting the region’s favorable e-commerce trends, Shopee contributed significantly to Sea’s financial performance in the last quarter. Notably, the unit’s gross merchandise value saw a 7% year-over-year increase.  As you know, Sea is going to release its earnings today before market open, with investors looking out for new initiatives to kickstart growth amid increasing competition. $Sea Ltd(SE)$  Sea Limited faced another setback as it missed earnings, leading to a 12% loss in premarket trading. I find myself contemplating the future of Sea's prospects. The recurrent earnings miss raises concerns about the company's performance and management strategies. Considering the recent downturn, I am left pondering whether Sea is still a worthwhile investment. Being honest with myself, I acknowledge the possibility of being a bag holder – holding onto a stock that has depreciated significantly.
