GM Today Is a Better Business Than Ever

In the 18 months since the spotlight was written, I’ve come to LOVE $General Motors(GM)$ ’s core business and how management is running it. Today’s Q3 2024 results show exactly why.Revenue was up 10.5% to $48.8 billion!Adjusted automotive free cash flow was $5.8 billion!Full-year earnings guidance was increased by $0.50 to $10.00 to $10.50 per share in earnings. This is in a DOWN market for the auto business. But let’s put the company’s competitive position into some context:GM has a 64% market share in large SUVS — THIS IS WHERE THE MONEY IS MADE IN THE AUTO BUSINESS!GM has a 44% market share in full-size trucks.GM’s EV market share in the U.S. has gone from 6.5% to 9.8% in JUST 1 QUARTERS!In my GM earnings preview, I said:I want to see that GM’s rhe

Amidst a challenging automotive market and rising competition in the electric vehicle sector, $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ managed to deliver a surprising turnaround in third-quarter profits. U.S. Treasuries Plunge Echoes 1995, Betting on Soft Landing

The last time U.S. Treasuries faced such a sharp sell-off following a Fed rate cut, Alan Greenspan was engineering a rare soft landing. Since the Fed’s first rate cut on September 18, 2020, the two-year Treasury yield has surged by 34 basis points. In 1995, under Greenspan, the Fed successfully cooled the economy without a recession, with yields also rising sharply. In earlier cycles before 1989, the two-year yield typically dropped 15 basis points a month after the first cut. Strong Economy Limits Fed's Aggressive CutsDeutsche Bank’s Steven Zeng remarked that rising yields indicate reduced recession risk, “The data is strong, and the Fed might slow the rate cut pace.” This yield rise shows the resilience of the U.S. economy, which is limiting Fed Chair Powell’s options for aggressive easi

Will Costco be another Netflix?

A report from Morgan Stanley (MS) suggests that Costco is having a "Netflix moment," citing $Costco(COST)$ 's ongoing crackdown on "account sharing," as with $Netflix(NFLX)$ The crackdown on sharing is expected to convert 4 million previously unpaid members in North America and generate a 5 per cent uplift on 76 million users globally.j On this basis, the measure is estimated to result in 8% membership growth and $0.54 EPS growth in the FY2025 base scenario, and 12% membership growth and $0.82 EPS growth in the bull scenario....I think there are some similarities and differences to focus on.Similarities:Also targeting "card dabbling" sharing users, who tend to be price sens

Rising Treasury Yields - 2 Trading Ideas to Consider

With macroeconomic forces in flux—persistent inflation risks, delayed rate cuts, and political uncertainty—Treasury traders are assessing how these dynamics could push yields higher in the short term, leading to further sell-offs in equity markets. This article examines the factors driving yields higher and presents two high-conviction Treasury trading ideas backed by probability assessments. Rising Yields: What's Driving the Sell-off? 1. Repricing of Fed Rate Cut Expectations The bond market has been quick to respond to signals that the Fed might keep rates elevated for longer. As the U.S. economy shows resilient growth and inflation remains above the Fed’s 2% target, traders now expect fewer rate cuts in 2024 and 2025 than previously forecast. This shift has exerted upward pressure on Tr

$.SPX(.SPX)$ - Support at the 20DMAThe daily candle isn't a bullish reversal one, but the 4H timeframe does suggest so. $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Jumped as expected🎯, and it will influence the market tomorrow, so the odds for a bounce in SPX and $NASDAQ 100(NDX)$ based on the 4H chart are significant. The week is still expected to close in the red or with a doji in the best case scenario.ImageEarly, SPX - McClellan Oscillator Mentioned yesterday in the SPX post that breadth deteriorated in a significant way, the McClellan Oscillator moved down by -81%. Strong support at the bottom, but short-term upward momentum is lacking. How should NIO be handled?

Hello, everyone. In this episode of yield hunting, I'd like to share a strategy for a popular Chinese stock: NIO (NIO Inc.).Those familiar with this stock know that NIO’s price has been in a downtrend from early August last year until September this year.Since September, a technical bottom has appeared, followed by a recent surge in Chinese stocks, forming a golden cross, and the M60 moving average has also started to trend upward. However, as the recent surge in Chinese stocks pulls back, NIO has also begun to retrace. Currently, the price is around the M60 moving average, where support is expected to form.In summary, NIO has established a strong support level around the $3.6 price point from a technical perspective, but upward momentum is lacking, and the likelihood of a pullback is high.S

Short squeeze is in progress, six charts reveal that the silver may outperform the gold.

Today, we are specially writing an article for Baiyin. In fact, our domestic stocks are the popular varieties, gold belongs to the niche, and silver belongs to the niche within the niche, so you have been watching me write articles, talking more about gold than silver. But the protagonist of today's article is silver.PicturesLet's look at the first picture first, this is an overlay chart of the trend of gold and silver over the past two decades. The red line is the price of gold and the yellow line is the price of silver.Judging from the historical limit values in the past few periods, the limit value and volatility of silver should be greater than those of gold, especially in the final peak acceleration stage. Therefore, when the price of gold broke through $2,700/oz, hitting a record high

Should young people save first or invest earlier? Well, in my opinion there is a list here to set the stage right... 1. Young people? How young?  We can first teach our kids the value of money. How come we need to work for money and why. Then they will have a better understandiing of it. That money is the "lubricant" of life essential needs and wants... We have to let them understand that "things don't just drop from the sky" You have to work hard for what you want to achieve and aquire.  During their schooling years we can slowly teach them about why we need to pay the shopkeeper to get our groceries and other stuffs that we need and how the "system" works... And if they can understand then we can slowly teach them about simple economic theories and how it works.

[Events] Should young people save first or invest earlier?

Margin will be even lower, no news about the affordable cars, no $25k car, can't sell Cybertruck hence $20k price reduction. No details how Robotaxis are rolled out or when. Regulatory approval of FSD outside of US looks bad, won't happen in EU for the next years, China maybe in a couple of years. Recent death of pedestrian shows that the vision only FSD is incapable of working in low visibility settings like fog, so not even close to autonomy whilst Waymo ramps up more and more cars (especially when theit new, much cheaper cars are coming out). Lastly, Elon is pissing off every single buyer or owner with his right wing politics and antics. He needs to sell Tesla shares to pay off his interest as X makes a huge loss. He will also not get any compensation as the verdict from Delaware Chance

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$  This is exactly what I brought up a month ago in my post regarding Palantir’s valuation that imo is very extended. I’m not saying the same exact scenario will happen with Palantir and alot of other stocks, but it’s something to keep in mind. I can for sure see something similar to this playing out given the expensiveness of the stock. Never let you’e ultra-bullishness blind you in making the right decision. At an entry of ~10B for Palantir, the multiples were not expensive, and the runway for upside was massive, making the r/r very attractive. At todays price of ~100B, now the downside is massive and the runway is much more limited. A 10x a today’s prices inputs a 1T valuation

Macro Tipping Point

This is a bit of a rehash of a note I wrote back in April but the current conditions seem fitting again as US yields move sharply higher. The turn weaker in the US data from April until August of this year meant that there was renewed demand for bonds as the market began to expect a sharp Fed easing cycle. We have to remember that with the US currently running such large deficits there is constant anxiety about oversupply of US Treasuries that has popped up a couple of times over the last few years. I find it interesting that it has been into 24th October both in 2022 and 2023 that US 30yr yields moved sharply higher and then peaked (this was when fear of inflation/treasury over supply and Fed hawkishness all peaked in both years). These concerns had started to re-emerge in April 2024 but

After election highly likely we see 10-20% correction

Stock market concentration has rarely been so extreme: The top 10 US companies now account for 18% of global stock market capitalization, the most since the early 1970s. Over the last 15 years, this share has TRIPLED. To put this into perspective, even at the the 2000 Dot-Com bubble peak, the top 10 firms' weight was 14%, or 4 percentage points lower. At the same time, the top 5 US companies reflect 15% of global stocks' market value, the most since the data began tracking in the 1970s. A few key US stocks effectively ARE the stock market.
