Dragon Boat Festival! How Do You Celebrate?

Tomorrow is the Dragon Boat Festival! Will you celebrate it? In China, people have different opinions on whether to eat sweet zongzi or savory zongzi because of cultrual difference. Do you prefer sweet or savory zongzi? What kind of zongzi will your family eat tomorrow? What flavor of zongzi would you most like to try?

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ Guess what, TT’s? I’ve just discovered that we don’t have to travel far to join the Dragon Boat Festival madness – we’ve got our very own celebration right here in New Zealand! And where did I find it? On Valley Road in Auckland, where the Asian food scene is so good, it could make a dumpling cry. So, here’s the down low as I’ve since discovered: celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, this festival is a sensory explosion. I got a sneak peek of the festivities with the most divine Chicken and Cabbage dumplings, homemade and so good they could bring tears to a dragon's eye. Now, let's talk Zongzi. These sticky rice dumplings are stuffed with savoury or sweet fillings like red dates, pork, and salted eggs. The tas

Celebrating Duanwu Festival in Australia: A Time for Joy and Tradition As the aroma of glutinous rice and sweet fillings wafts through the air, we stand on the cusp of another Duanwu Festival, a celebration steeped in rich history and cultural significance. This year, the festival holds even greater meaning for Australians, coinciding with the King's Birthday public holiday, transforming it into a much-needed respite amidst the challenges of rising inflation, soaring prices, and high-interest rates. For the Chinese diaspora in Australia, Duanwu Festival is an occasion to reconnect with their heritage, honor traditions, and share the joy of the season with loved ones. Homes across the country come alive with the rhythmic drumming of bamboo poles and the vibrant hues of dragon boats adornin

I prefer Hokkien style of Rice Dumplings with salted egg yolk. Ba Zhang! It’s Dragon Boat Festival today! This festival is associated with the story of the patriotic Chinese poet Qu Yuan, who threw himself into the Mi Luo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month when he learnt that his country had fallen to the enemy. It was said that villagers and fishermen tossed rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fishes from eating Qu Yuan’s body. Nowadays, we commemorate this traditional festival with thrilling dragon boat races and delicious rice dumplings. In Singapore, different dialect and cultural groups offer their own version of rice dumplings, reflecting our unique multiculturalism. There are also healthier choices with less sodium and fat. Do eat in moderation, and I hope yo

I love my rice dumplings be it (a) Hokkien, (b) Nyonya and even (c) Hong Kong. Yes the latter is uncommon in Singapore. HK dumplings is almost squarish in shape and has yellow mung  beans as stuffings. In Hong Kong, could usually find them at noodle shops, served over a thin layer "cooked" light soya sauce. More importantly eating dumplings used to be a family affair - my mum made them, my siblings and I ate them, over many many days for both lunch & dinner. With mum aging and us simplifying our lifestyles, its stripped down off the shelf purchase, nowadays. Looking back on this day brings back fond memories.

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ i prefer the savory dumpling. the best way to enjoy it is to go to the old chinese city and immerse in the atmosphere.  @Asphen  @Aqa  @BenjiFuji  @DiAngel  @Fenger1188  @GoodLife99  @koolgal  @LMSunshine

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ Sweet or savoury, what matters most is that you enjoy it with family together in a harmonious and happy manner. Like growth stocks like$Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$  or dividend stocks like$DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$  what matters most is that you don't lose any money and capitalize on the capital and/or dividend gain. Happy Dragon Boat Festival all!  HUAT AHHH!

🐲🐲🐲 HAPPY DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL to all Tiger friends! Zongzi is my favorite food. We make and love to est traditional savory ones with pork, chestnut and mushroom. I would like to try the colourful konyaku dumplings and dumplings with sea cucumber, abalone and salted eggs shown in this article. Thanks @Tiger_comments
Ah, the Dragon Boat Festival - a vibrant celebration steeped in tradition and delicious food! Unfortunately, I'm caught off guard in New Zealand, far from the festive fervor. While others revel in the excitement, I'll be dreaming of savoury bak zhang and the rich flavors that come with this special day. Perhaps next year, I'll be better prepared to join in the merriment and indulge in the tasty treats that make this festival so beloved!

Replying to @DiAngel:I think the taste will not be as good as normal days. Just like bak kwa. Before CNY, it is a cut-throat price. Moreover, some bak kwa are over cooked or burnt. //@DiAngel:Neither celebrating nor eating traditional zongzi as glutinious rice will cause indigestion for the elderly. Will take it as another working day. Not a holiday in SG as compared to China.

$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ As usual buy Bak Zhang to eat, as away from home cannot eat Bak Zhang made by mother 😪. Will teach my kids on history and value of dragon boat festival and how it related to ancient history. In today fast pace lifestyle,  we shouldn't forget our traditional festival and it can bring back some sweet memory.

🌟🌟🌟My favourite zhongzi is the Nyonya  zhongzi.  It is sweet and savoury - the best of both worlds.    😍😍😍
$Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ I like traditional Nonya Zong Zi or Ba Zhang. Last time my mum always do it herself but now old already she just buy from outside.

I love the mixed type which is a mixture of sweet and salted. The best type is when you are hungry and it is hot. Add a bit of chilli sauce and wow it’s fulfilling. Another type is the kee zhang which has no filling but you eat it with sugar or gula melaka and shredded coconut.
Nyonya Dumpling best. Best of both worlds, sweet (candied winter melon) and savoury (pork filling).  1 for breakfast is just sumptuous!
I prefer red bean zongzi over meat zongzi. It would be a great taste when honey is your dipping sauce. Other kind of zongzi like spicy one, which is getting more popularity recently although it is not what we traditionally think a zongzi should be.
