Whether the Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates this year is still uncertain, the Wall Street Journal reporter Nick Timiraos, who is known as the "Fed mouthpiece," wrote on Wednesday (18). Philadelphia Fed President Patric Harker, who has a vote on the Federal Open Market Committee this year, said the Fed should remain on hold until early next year because monetary policy has a lag effect and higher borrowing costs will drag on the economy despite recent data pointing to renewed strength in the jobs and consumer markets.Mr. Harker said the Fed is likely to wait until early next year to determine whether its rapid rate hikes over the past 20 months have been enough to tame inflation.
