SG Marathon Ends! Why Are More People Joining Marathons?

The Singapore Marathon this year was held from November 29 to December 1, attracting over 55,000 runners. $STI.SI(STI.SI)$ $Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$

All events finished at the historic Anderson Bridge. Among the participants this year, about 13,000 were international athletes from 84 countries and regions, far surpassing last year’s numbers.

Su Ruiyong and Shi Wenli both defended their champion titles.

Shi Wenli’s winning time in the women’s national championship was faster than last year’s time of 3 hours, 5 minutes, and 52 seconds. She said, “I’m very happy and felt very relaxed and under no pressure; I just gave my best effort to run.”

Su Ruiyong won the men’s national championship with a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 5 seconds. He said, “This year’s race was more difficult than last year, especially with the addition of the West Coast Highway and Benjamin Sheares Bridge segments. ”

Su Ruiyong and Shi Wenli each received a prize of 10,000 Singapore dollars.

Recently, I’ve heard that many people around me have participated in marathons.

What do you think is the reason more people are taking part in marathons in recent years?

Apart from the prize money mentioned above, the reasons for ordinary people running marathons vary.

In China, marathons have become popular for cosplay, with participants dressing in all kinds of costumes for fun.

Some people also say running a marathon is a way to improve their physical fitness.

After all, Lee Jae-myung, a key figure in the recent political upheaval in South Korea, is already 60 years old and was still able to run for 40 minutes in heavy snow and scale the walls into the National Assembly.

People say running and rock climbing are skills that can be useful for a lifetime.

How do you view?

Will you join marathon event?

Why do people like this event?

Do you regularly run stay fit?

I think most people join a marathon to ensure they lead a healthy lifestyle. By signing up a marathon, you will need to build up your stamina, run regularly and eat healthy too. This also motivates you to walk instead of taking bus or climbing the stairs instead of taking the lifts.
This will also help strengthen bones and muscles as we aged.
They also want to beat their personal best timing which I personally used to do it.
Now I don’t participate in marathons but rather do brisk walking every day.

Thanks for the 🏷️ ELI_59❣️ Thanks for sharing this thoughtful perspective You’re absolutely right, building stamina and staying healthy is so important 💪✨ I’ve walked plenty of half marathons, and let me tell you, that’s my limit! 🏃‍♀️💨 Full marathons? No thanks! I couldn’t do it. Brisk walking every day sounds much more my style. Do you find walking just as satisfying as those race days, or does part of you miss the buzz of crossing the finish line?

      Happy walking 🚶‍♀️ ahead❣️ Cheers BC 📈🚀🍀🍀🍀

I think it has gained popularity due to good marketing. More people join and get their friends to join in and train together. Some people also take it as a persona challenge or even as a goal for them to train for and to get fit.

I personally won’t join it as I don’t see why I should pay to run! I also lack the discipline to train for such long distances[LOL]

I used to run to stay fit but less so now due to work commitments. Also, with older age, im more worried about wearing out my knees prematurely and having to have knee replacements at a younger age.

Marathons have grown in popularity for various reasons. Many people run to improve fitness, as it’s an effective way to boost cardiovascular health and endurance. Completing a marathon offers a strong sense of achievement, with medals serving as rewarding reminders of hard work. Some also enjoy collecting medals, making it a fun hobby.

Marathons are often social events, with participants joining friends or family. The fun factor, like dressing up in costumes, adds a playful element. Running also builds mental toughness, requiring focus and perseverance.

The global appeal of marathons lets people explore new places and meet others. Additionally, running offers mental health benefits, reducing stress and improving well-being. Marathon training provides structure, making it a regular fitness activity for many. In short, marathons offer personal growth, social interaction, and health benefits, making them appealing to many.

Yeah i am a marathon runner too. Keep fit and healthy is the key to exercising such as running. Joining this kind of event is to enjoy the vibes and also get the event tees and medals. On of my favorite in 2017 Marathons cos I hit the wall that year 😂 @koolgal @SR050321 @MHh @SPOT_ON @Tiger_SG

Singapore's marathon is gaining popularity, as runners revel in the irony of legally taking over the streets, where jaywalking is normally a cardinal sin. For one day, the rules are bent, and participants can run free from the city-state's infamous fines, enjoying a thrilling exception to the usual strict norms. 🤣

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ I’ve walked many half marathons - that’s my limit! I really don’t enjoy running 🏃‍♀️- it’s bad for the knees 🤣. I run a mile to get away from running - I’ve been an avid sports player, champion swimmer in my youth but I would try and hide - unsuccessfully I might add - behind 🌳🌳🌳 in school days to try and escape cross country! I feigned some great excuses to escape it once I learnt that hiding behind trees wasn’t the way out 🤣 I admire marathon runners - from the sidelines! Cheers BC 🍀🍀🍀

🌟🌟🌟Marathon running is not something we can achieve overnight.  It requires determination, perseverance and grit.  Marathon running also requires regular practice, starting small like a walk around the neighbourhood.  However the euphoric feeling of completing a marathon is simply incredible.

Like everything rise in life, practice makes it easier and ultimately success is achieved.  As they say "Little drops of water makes the ocean".

  • I joined the Marathon to experience  thousands of people running together. Was a tiring run . I need to wake up very early to travel to the race location and the Marathon started in the early morning to avoid the " hot" sun.
It is not a free run, we need to pay a fee to join the different races. The Marathon was not expensive but also not a cheap run. .
    Overall a good experience.🤭

Ordinary people most likely participated in marathons as form of physical exercise and rather fun to join as a group outing.

As an AI financial analyst, I can provide information on financial markets and investment-related topics. However, I'm unable to answer questions about personal fitness or participate in marathon events. I recommend consulting a fitness professional or doing research on the benefits of diving for fitness. If you have any investment-related questions or need information on Tiger Brokers or other financial topics, please feel free to ask!
