BRK.B 13F : What did Buffett Buy, Sell, Add ?
Deliberation.
I have deliberated on whether to put out a post on Warren Buffett’s $Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B)$ 13F filings for Q2 2025.
This is because I am getting a rather ‘poor’ readership on posts about investment gurus 13F holdings eg. Michael Burry (90 Reposts only) and Bill Ackman (966 Reposts); not to mention ‘mixed’ grading by Tiger.
Hence my hesitation.
After weighing the benefits to readers and also that I like to know what Buffett is buying before he hands over the rein to Greg Abel in December 2025, here I am - sharing what I have learnt.
13F Filing - latest.
Mr Buffett has been a net seller of stocks in recent years.
However, 2025 sees him deploy billions into selected opportunities he deems worthy of a long-term hold.
At the same time, he has let go of some of his long-term holdings (strange if you asked me but what do I know).
The Purchases.
Below are the stocks he has added to his portfolio this year.
Berkshire Hathaway revealed a new stake in troubled insurer UnitedHealth in Q2 2025.
The conglomerate purchased more than 5 million shares in the health-care firm for a stake worth about $1.6 billion at the end of June 2025.
According to VerityData, the stake puts UNH as the 18th-biggest position in Berkshire portfolio behind Amazon and Constellation Brands.
The largest private health insurer has become the face of public blowback in this country against the rising costs of health care.
UNH is currently facing a Justice Department investigation into its Medicare billing practices.
It was reported on Thu, 14 Aug 2025 that UNH’s stock shot up by +6.0% in extended trading following Berkshire’s disclosure.
Shares of UnitedHealth were down nearly -50% for 2025 until Thursday’s close before Buffett’s filing.
Since 14 Aug 2025,YTD loss has been reduced to -39.07% (as of Fri, 22 Aug 2025). (see above)
It remains to be seen whether UNH will be able to retake its peak of $615.81 achieved on 8 Nov 2025, a few days post US presidential election.
UNH is not the only stock Berkshire picked up recently.
In fact, BRK.B also took small stakes in :
(2) $Nucor(NUE)$ (Steel manufacturer)
As of 30 Jun 2025, BKR.B stake in Nucor stood at 6.6 million shares, valued at $857 million.
Like UNH, NUE traded up by +6.2% to $153.34 per share, jumping past a buy point before US market opened for trading on Fri, 15 Aug 2025.
This came about after BRk.B’s disclosure.
According to MarketSurge, NUE stock has a 147.15 buy point from a cup-with-handle base with its buy zone running through $154.51.
-
BRK.B has already profited from its NUE investment. (see above)
-
BRK.B has bought into NUE between $119.66 (01 Apr 2025) and $129.54 (30 Jun 2025).
-
As of Fri, 22 Aug 2025, NUE closing price was $147.93 per share.
-
It has indeed been a strategic investment.
(3) Lamar Advertising (Outdoor advertising company).
BRK.B has acquired 1.17 million Lamar Advertising Co shares at an average price of $116 per share, costing BRK.B about $136 million.
This forms 0.06% of BRK.B equity portfolio and is Berkshire’s 33rd position holdings.
With the purchase, Berkshire owns 1.16% of the outstanding Lamar Advertising Co stock.
On Fri, 22 Aug 2025, LAMR ended the week at $126.82 per share.
This value the 1.17 million shares at $148.38 million, netting BRK.B a gain of +9.10%.
(4) Allegion.
BRK.B has purchased approximately 780,000 shares of security firm Allegion, at an average price of about $136.63 per share.
It accounts for 0.05% of BRK.B’s total portfolio value and rank as 34th largest holding.
As of Fri, 22 Aug 2025, ALLE's share price was $172.24, valuing the stake at around $134.35 million, up from BRK.B’s original purchase value of approx. $106.57 million.; that’s a +26.07% gain a few months into investment. (see above)
(5) Homebuilders - Lennar & DR Horton.
As of 30 Jun 2025, BRK.B’s 13F filing revealed:
-
A 1.49 million shares’ stake in D.R. Horton that is worth $191.49 million.
-
An increased in Lennar stake to 7.23 million shares, from 152,572 (as of 31 Mar 2025)
-
That gave Berkshire a stake worth $798.7 million.
Add Ons.
(6) $Chevron(CVX)$ (Oil company).
In Q2 2025, BRK.B increased its Chevron stake by +2.90% or 3.45 million shares.
With that, it brings the position to approximately $17.4 – $18.4 billion.
This purchase also result in CVX occupying about 6.8 – 7% of Berkshire’s total equity portfolio, while maintaining its standing as 5th largest holding in BRK.B’s portfolio.
This additional purchase highlights Berkshire's continued confidence in CVX’s long-term prospects.
Looking at CVX’s Fri, 22 Aug 2025 closing price of $158.18 per share, it is likely that the additional purchase is already raking in profits for BRK.B as well; like its other Q2 2025 purchases.
(7) Heico (Defense stock).
I first covered Heico back in 8 Nov 2024. Click here ! for details in the original post.
Buffett has added to his Q2 2024’s stake in Heico (HEI) with an additional 132,524 shares, raising its stake by 11%.
After the latest addon, HEI represents about 0.13% of Berkshire's equity portfolio and ranks near the 23rd largest holding among BRK.B's 41 reported positions.
In my November 2024 post, HEI was about $248.86 per share.
As of Friday’s closing, it stood at $309.59 per share. (see above) Needless to say, BRK.B has bagged another winner.
The Sales.
At the opposite end were ‘selective’ sales, out of its 5 largest holdings.
These included:
$Bank of America(BAC)$ (financial institutions).
In the 3 months time frame of Q2 2025, BKR.B has sold about 4% (or 26.3 million shares) of its remaining BAC stake, netting around $1.1 billion with average sale price near $42 per share.
Following the sale, Berkshire is still holding approx. 605.27 million shares of BAC; down from 631.57 million (as of 31 Mar 2025), with a value of about $27 – $30.6 billion.
It still makes up roughly 11.6% of the equity portfolio.
Despite the reduction, BAC remains Berkshire’s 3rd largest position.
Apple Inc (AAPL).
BRK.B’s also trimmed its stake in AAPL by about -7% or 20 million shares; netting approx $4 billion from the sales, at an average price near $201.71 per share. (see below)
With the concluded sales, BRK.B's Apple holdings stands at about 280 million shares, valued at approx $57.4 billion.
Despite the sale, AAPL remains Berkshire’s largest single stock holding, accounting for roughly 24.3% of the portfolio, maintaining its position as the top-ranked asset.
This as BRK.B’s stake in AAPL has been down by more than ⅔ since Q3 2023.
It is hard to wrap one’s head around the ‘peak’ original holdings of AAPL by BRK.B just a few years ago.
My view points : (mine only)
I still question Mr Buffett’s timing on selling its top two stocks namely, AAPL and BAC.
Yes, after its latest Q2 sales, there’s still a substantial quantity left in its holdings.
But looking at both stocks’ prices now (especially in August 2025) - they are on the rise further.
And if US central bank proceeds to cut interest rate come September 16-17’s FOMC meeting, based on market consensus there should be another rally of sort.
Doesn’t it makes sense to hold out a little longer for an even bigger profit quantum?
On new acquisitions, will UNH be able to recover 100% lost grounds back to its 8 Nov 2025 peak of $615.81 ? I have my reservations, given the ongoing investigation and also US economy for H2 2025 and into H1 2026.
I am not a fan of outdoor advertising services (Lamar Advertising) because if US economy goes southwards, advertising will be one of the first few items to be trimmed from every company’s budget.
With a YTD gain of +4.79%, it is a slow burner. Coupled with rising inflation inching towards 3%, there is not much upside, let alone incentive for ordinary investors (like me) - is there ?
Berkshire Hathaway investment makes good reference materials for retail investors.
However, I strongly believe individual investor must always tailor what is out there and see if it suits one’s risk & time profile. Don’t just follow blindly.
After all one man’s meat is another man’s poison, no ?
