Russian stock market plunged 10%! NATO fighters took off !What happened??

Just now, the Russian RTS index suddenly expanded in front of the market, with a decline of more than 10%:

Media reports:

Russia has assembled 100000 troops on the Ukrainian border and said it would dispatch almost all navies to hold a series of large-scale military exercises from January to February.

On the other hand, NATO announced its troops on standby and sent more warships and fighters to Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, US and Russian diplomats in Ukraine have withdrawn.

US officials said:

Americans are expected to be encouraged to evacuate Ukraine by commercial flights next week.

The US embassy in Ukraine announced:

The first batch of us security aid materials and ammunition have arrived in Ukraine.

The president of the European Commission said:

If Ukraine is further attacked, the EU will respond with "large-scale" economic and financial sanctions. The EU does not accept Russia's attempt to divide the sphere of influence in Europe. If there is an attack, the EU is ready.

Though Russia says it has no plans to attack Ukraine, US President Joe Biden is certainly expecting some kind of military move. If a war were to break out, stock market will crash.

I think this is just a distraction from the real issue... Biden administration is facing a lot of headwinds domestically and is trying to divert attention away from itself

there are so many worries in the world today, and this is not helping. sincerely hoping people will start being enlightened, and the war won't come to fruition.

Putin is unpredictable and cunning. He is keeping everyone on their toes. It stands to reason though that he and Russia will lose a lot if there is an invasion. Ultimately, I think it’s bluster

The situation is very tense in the Ukraine border with troops gathering both sides. If there is an invasion the markets will tumble further.Hopefully it can be resolved diplomatically & peace restored!

It is just posturing. There will be no outright war, but a game of political give and take; which disrupt traditional market forces. Some stocks will rise like LNG in Australia market

Well, the recent movements from the related countries might have created fears to the stock market. Once the dispute can be resolved in one form of another, the stock price might climb up again.

Hopefully both parties remain cordial at the very least to establish some peace. Or else the market will definitely experience a decline as with any unrest.

War is the very last resort; I believe both parties will remain in this standoff manner for months, before they finally resolve through diplomatic channels.

Just the fact that troops are gathering in force in the Ukraine is enough to send the markets into a tizzy!  This and the inflation genie is out of the bottle is creating havoc in the markets too!

Russia has advantage in an invasion. First, done it twice. Crimea and parts of Georgia are captured without severw penalty. Second US and EU will not commit to boots to defend Ukraine.

Thirdly, Germany imports 40% of energy from Russia. Imagine of Russia turns the tap off. A war in winter is great. Lastly, Putin view Ukraine’s moving away from Russia as a threat to Russia.

both sides would try avoid a full scale war but even such conflicts will be bad for their economy. wonder how this will affect the Fed's announcement n the markets

Unlikely to materialise into a war. Might be more political to show off their prowess. Make use of the opp to DCA on fundamentally strong stocks
