[Weekend Topic] Have you ever lost sleep over stock trading?

It is said that different types of investors have different sleeping postures.

After trading stocks, how is your sleep at night?

  • Regular investors sleep on their backs, seemingly enjoying good sleep quality.

  • Quantitative traders sleep on their sides, appearing to have something on their mind.

  • Professional traders sleep face down, possibly because they are wiping tears with their pillow.

  • No stop-loss traders cannot fall asleep, staying awake until dawn.

Have you ever had trouble sleeping while trading stocks?

  • It might be because you bought a stock you don't understand, worrying about whether it will fall;

  • Or maybe you've heavily invested in stocks, exceeding your psychological tolerance;

  • Or perhaps you've become a bag holder, tossing and turning at night, wondering whether to cut losses.

How is your sleep at night?

Which kind of sleeping position and trading type do you belong to in the chart?

Have you ever lost sleep over stock trading?

    🌟🌟🌟Sleep is one of the 3 most important things to live a healthy life apart from good nutrition and exercise.  It is easy to lose sleep over losses in the stock market especially when it is a big position.  I must confess that I lost some sleep when the Hong Kong markets hit new lows recently but when I ask myself is it worth it?  The answer is crystal clear.

    Nothing is worth losing a good sleep not even big  losses in the stock markets.  Life is too short to worry incessantly about things.  That's why I have invested in ETFs which offer me the diversification and power of many stocks at a low cost and the best part of it is I get to collect regular dividends.

    One of the best remedies to sleeplessness is to mediate and being grateful for all the good things in my life.  It can be as simple as having a loving family, appreciating the safety and comfort of my home, laughing at the antics of my dog.  In contrast when I think of people in war torn countries like Ukraine and Palestine, I am so grateful that I am in Singapore.

    That's how I am now able to get better sleep irregardless of what challenges life may put in my way - just by counting my blessings. 😍😍😍🌈🌈🌈🍀🍀🍀

    well, all of the above [Sly] [Sly] [Sly]...

    I think when it comes to investing, one will need to have risk management which is one of the most important aspects...

    do not trade aggressively, always within limits... this way, you can have a good night sleep...

    Sleep normally. Because im an investor, not trader. Buy only what i know and can understand, and more importantly within my risk appetite and time horizon. Having emergency fund settled and necessary insurance is also a given!

    Yes, last time i can sleep like an investor (on my back), recently i notice i can sleep only on my side … now then i know the meaning 😅 have somethings on my mind. I wish i can sleep at 11 pm, but US market started at 10.30 pm now 😂 by the time check here n there, already 12 am. What i like doing trading in $Tiger Brokers(TIGR)$ gives me chance to trade like a pro, but i buy only small qty 😂😂😂 i can buy more qty but only one type of stock, while i prefer diversify, thru all the process, i learned which stock better for trade or can be for long term. I like when US market start at 9.30 pm. $ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd.(ZIM)$ gives me the most headache 💔 could not believe it drop so much, from the highest $80 😭

    I am a regular investor as i sleep on my back. Sleeping on the sides will cause wrinkles around the mouth [Cry][Anger][Spurting][Sweats][Blush]. In addition, sleeping on my left side will hear my heart beats non stop. Thus, unable to sleep. [LOL]

    I invested stocks using my warchest and those money that I am willing to lose. For those who have been reading my post, I paper lost USD 5 figures for my China UT. I m still keeping them as those were my profits from my US ESPP stocks. [Smile] I m still waiting for the right time to sell my US ESPP stocks. No hurry as I still have my warchest to buy SG stocks for dividends. Planning for the future.[USD]

    The only thing that caused me sleepless night is by having coffee or tea after 2pm, work stress & late night teleconference(I hate winter time! [Anger][Sad]). Whereas, when the market is down and I dont have external factors impacting me, i will acquire more stocks. If it drops further, I still sleep well as i paid my justifable price. 🍀🍀

    Sleep on my back as a regular investor of more than 5 years. Stop loss when it is triggered and take profits when target price is reached. No loss of sleep lah!

    Never fall in love with any stocks regardless of any stock types, REITS included. They are tools to your wealth creation. Set your exit strategy even is a stable stock & be discpline at exiting. Have a good, deep sleep.

  • I have a good sleep at night! Getting enough sleep is crucial for our overall well-being and health. Quality sleep helps to restore our energy levels, supports brain function, and promotes physical and mental health.

    During sleep, our bodies go through different stages, including light sleep, deep sleep, and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Each stage plays a role in different aspects of our sleep cycle, such as physical restoration, memory consolidation, and dreaming.

    I am sleeping at the right side of me. I am a very long term investor like Warren Buffet. I buy the company share base on their company portfolio and the management style. I can easily sleep without any worry of the stock price.  I strongly believe that the stock price go down is only a temporary time, it will eventually go up again in certain time line. Of course you need to buy those blue chip shares like $Amazon.com(AMZN)$ $Alphabet(GOOG)$ $Apple(AAPL)$ etc...

    When i was purely stock investor, i dun lose sleep. Mainly cos the strategy is straight forward. Find undervalued dividend stocks to buy. If it drops more, buy more to reduce cost and increase dividend yields. As long as nothing major that damages the structure of the company or the coy becomes obsolete. There’s nothing to worry about as undervaluation will eventually revert to at least fair value.
    Options is a totally different story. Technically i can automate my orders to fill, but my current option strategy requires decision making especially when i roll options or converting stocks to options. Hardly the type that i can just ignore and automate. Hence, i am losing sleep, as i usually monitor us market open for 1 hour before making decision with regards to option.
    Day light savings is definitely not helping. Us markets open at 10.30pm sg time. I monitor until 11.30pm, decision making usually around 1hr. Prep to sleep 1 hr. I sleep around 1am on most nights… [Cry]

    I am a regular investor now so I do sleep well at night. But I also trade some options. On the few rare occasions when I have options expiring and they are at the money, things do get tense, although I don't think I lost sleep over them. I used to trade CFDs in the past and have lost alot of money. CFDs, being leveraged securities, are really not for the faint hearted. Your profits and losses are magnified, not to mention there are interest costs as well. Definitely not for the faint hearted and you will definitely lose sleep over them!

    The no stop loss position is so true. If i am day trading, i will always make sure to close my trade before i sleep regardless of the amount win or loss. Though i am not a pro trader, i do sleep with my face down 🤣🤣

    mm...I guess my sleep position is like the pro trader post in the picture, not because I earn a lot or pro in investment but the opposite way. I am in deep red now, and "no eye see" . just face down and sleep forget about those loss [LOL] [Facepalm]

    I am definitely sleeping face down now, because my stocks $Intel(INTC)$ has just crashed 12% and I am wiping my tears with my pillow! I need a very BIG pillow at that. This is a nightmare way to find out I am a ‘Professional trader’ in the article @Tiger_comments [Cry][Cry] Now i found out I don’t understand my stocks, I have invested in stocks exceeding my tolerance level, and I have to hold a bag - tossing and turning at night, wondering whether to cut losses. No, I do dollar-cost averaging and make a trade only once a month on my salary day, regardless of the price of a share I keep buying. I do believe in the Fourth Law of Motion taught by Warren Buffett; For investors as a whole, returns decrease as motion increases.

    有,因為我買了一隻你不懂的股票,擔心它是否會倒下;
    或許我已經大量投資在股票中,超出我的心理承受能力;
    或者我已經成爲一個包夾夜裏輾轉反側,不知是否要減少損失。
