In the 2019 World Lottery Yearbook, it was reported that Singapore spends $5.41 billion (about SGD 7.1 billion) annually on lottery tickets. This amounts to $935 per person (about SGD 1,240), far exceeding the $798 per person in Massachusetts, USA, which ranks second globally.
2. Why are Singaporeans so obsessed with the lottery?
The odds of winning are high, and the prizes are also huge!
On October 21, 2024, Singapore's TOTO website reported that the jackpot had reached SGD 13.21 million, which was ultimately shared by two winners, making them instant millionaires.
The highest jackpot in history was on February 11, 2022, reaching a massive SGD 19.4 million!
The odds of winning are higher due to Singapore's relatively small population of just 6 million, making the chances of winning greater.
3. Is buying call options more likely to profit than buying lottery tickets?
