At US$ 66.2 billion, $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ ’s brand value has surged by 44% and marks the first time an EV OEM has topped the global rankings; it is also the first brand that does not produce gasoline vehicles to top the list. Even expanding the scope to include all product categories not limited to cars, $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ 's performance is impressive (9th overall, up 19 places from 2022).

BF wrote in the report that $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$'s brand value has increased by more than 5 times compared to before the epidemic, and it has now surpassed last year's top $Mercedes Benz Group AG(DDAIF)$, whose brand value dropped slightly by 3% to US$58.8 billion last year. The runner-up $Toyota(TM)$ in 2022 was troubled by supply chain problems and new energy transformation, and its brand value dropped by nearly one-fifth within a year, with a brand value of US$52.5 billion. It is worth noting that $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$' is also the only company among the top 13 auto companies whose brand value has grown by more than 20% annually.

In terms of specific rankings, $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$' increased by 44% and was valued at US$66.2 billion, ranking first in the brand value of global auto companies in 2023. Mercedes-Benz and Toyota ranked second and third respectively, and three German auto companies $Bayerische Motoren Werke AG(BMWYY)$ , $Porsche Automobile Holding SE(POAHY)$ and $Volkswagen AG(VWAGY)$ occupied the 4th to 6th places, and the 7th to 10th places are respectively occupied by $Honda(HMC)$ , $Forward(FORD)$ , $HYUNDAI MTR.GDR(HYUD.UK)$ $HYUNDAI MTR.GDR(HYUD.UK)$ $Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd.(HYMLF)$ and Audi.

In its report, BF said BYD's brand value has grown along with sales growth in the world's largest new energy vehicle market (China). Although the company has been subject to multiple headwinds such as the epidemic, supply chain shortages and even power supply in the past year, BYD finally managed to solve this problem and reach the top.

At present, $BYD Co., Ltd.(BYDDY)$ has announced that it will no longer sell pure fuel vehicles, and when seeking to expand customers with more spending power, the company has also launched new brands and plans to expand the market overseas. In fact, this is also the common practice of most Chinese new energy brands that have increased their brand value.

Top 10 brand portfolio value rankings in 2023

Most of the top 10 groups in BF's value ranking in 2023 have experienced a decline in valuation. Among them, the top three ( $Volkswagen AG(VWAGY)$ , $Toyota(TM)$ and $Mercedes Benz Group AG(DDAIF)$ ) fell by 3.1%, 21% and 16.6% respectively; $Honda(HMC)$ , $Ford(F)$ , $Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd.(HYMLF)$ , $General Motors(GM)$ , $GEELY AUTO(00175)$ fell by 9.5%, 8.5%, 16.1%, 15.8%.

$Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd.(HYMLF)$ Group entered the top 10 auto groups the first time, ranking 7th. $Bayerische Motoren Werke AG(BMWYY)$ is the only group in the top 10 that has achieved positive growth, with a slight increase of 1.7%, ranking 4th with a valuation of US$43.8 billion.

$Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.(NSANY)$ , which was ranked 10th in 2022, is struggling with problems such as supply chain, epidemic situation and electrification transformation has fell out of the top 10 of this list this year.
