[Stock Prediction] How will INTC close after its earnings report?

Intel is set to report second-quarter earnings after the market close on Thursday, July 23. Analysts expect the company to report revenue of around $14.4 billion and adjusted earnings of approximately $0.20-$0.22 per share. $Intel(INTC)$

Intel shares have surged more than 160% year to date, driven by stronger server CPU demand, rising AI data center investment and growing expectations for its 18A foundry process. However, the stock has also pulled back more than 30% from its June high, showing that investors remain divided over whether the turnaround can live up to expectations.

What to Watch

Data center growth will be the biggest focus. Intel’s Data Center and AI segment generated $5.1 billion in first-quarter revenue, up 22% year over year. As AI workloads expand from training into inference and agentic AI, demand for server CPUs is also increasing. Investors will be watching whether Xeon demand remains strong and whether higher sales can improve margins.

Intel’s 18A foundry progress will also be closely watched. Intel Foundry reported around $5.4 billion in first-quarter revenue, but most of it still came from internal orders, while the business continued to post heavy losses. Investors will look for updates on production, yields, external customers and future revenue opportunities.

The PC market remains a risk. Global PC shipments fell around 4%-5% year over year in the second quarter, while higher memory prices could weigh on demand in the second half. Investors will be watching whether strength in server CPUs can offset weakness in Intel’s client business.

Options markets imply a post-earnings move of around 12%.

🌟🌟🌟I believe $Intel(INTC)$ will close Green post earnings on Thursday.  2 dominant tailwinds are pushing investors to bid up shares ahead of the release:

The recent restructuring moves under CEO Lip Bu Tan which includes strategic layoffs within its data center and AI Group, is treated as good move to cut costs.

Broader semiconductor demand remains robust.  Major research firms including Wedbush, have signaled that growing enterprise reliance on standard CPUs for Agentic AI inference workloads could easily drive a higher quarterly revenue beat.

Intel is up a massive 160.5% year todate  but is still well below its 52 week high of USD 142.34.  So there is much upside potential.

I’m voting bearish, expecting $Intel(INTC)$ to finish down around 5% to 10% after earnings. The stock has rallied sharply this year, raising expectations significantly. Even a decent quarter may disappoint if management doesn't provide stronger guidance or confidence for the second half.

My focus will be on Intel’s 18A foundry progress and data center business. Server CPU demand has improved, but investors want proof that AI investments can drive sustainable profits, better margins, and meaningful external foundry customers. Any disappointment could trigger selling.

I remain positive on Intel’s long-term turnaround, but I think this earnings report could become a "sell the news" event. With expectations running high, my prediction is a 5%-10% pullback after the results. If the market overreacts, I may even consider adding to my position for the long term.
