Buffett Donates $1B Before Thanksgiving! How Do You View?

The 94-year-old investment legend Warren Buffett made another significant donation ahead of Thanksgiving. $Berkshire Hathaway(BRK.B)$

On Monday, Berkshire Hathaway announced that its chairman, Buffett, made a "Thanksgiving donation" valued at approximately $1.14 billion.

Since pledging in 2006 to give away most of his wealth, Buffett has donated 56.6% of his Berkshire holdings.

Currently, Buffett still owns about 37.6% of Berkshire's Class A shares. According to Forbes, Buffett's net worth stands at $150 billion, making him the sixth richest person in the world.

Do you agree with Buffett's philosophy on teaching children about money?

Buffett emphasized how wealthy families should approach “giving money to children”: children should be left with enough wealth to do something significant but not so much that they end up doing nothing at all.

Buffett revealed that after his wife Susan passed away in 2004, her estate, valued at around $3 billion, saw 96% donated to their joint foundation, with an additional $10 million given to each of their three children. This was also the first time his children received a significant gift from their parents.

Upon his death, Buffett’s three children will be fully responsible for gradually distributing all his remaining Berkshire shares, which currently account for 99.5% of his total wealth.

Finally, Buffett expressed pride and gratitude toward his three children, praising them for spending more time directly helping others than he ever did.

As ordinary people, we may not be able to donate vast fortunes like Buffett, but we can still lend a helping hand in our daily lives.

Have you ever had an experience of helping others or being helped by someone?

If you had money as much as Buffett, would you donate money to strangers?

How much wealth would you leave to your children?

Do you spend time or money to help others?

Give with a willing heart ❤️ If you have been blessed with good fortune, it is good to help those less fortunate. And yes I would give money to help in their schooling as I am doing that for the Cambodia children.

I think we all have had experience of helping others or being helped by other; it’s just how big or small the help extended, through monetary efforts or through time and efforts. If I have such insane wealth like Buffett, I think there is no issues with donating money![LOL] Even though I don’t have that much money compared to him, I do donate money for different causes, based on what I can manage and afford to give away.volunteering is definitely limited as I am very time strapped…

I agree with his logic to leave only sufficient wealth to my children for them to work with and not too much that they don’t do anything at all.

If I had money as much as Buffet, for sure, I would donate money to the strangers. [LOL] I will probably leave half of my wealth to my children. I will spend both time and money to help others once in a while, such as some charity work, and donate food to old folks home.

I admire Warren Buffett's philosophy on teaching children about money. I agree that children should have enough wealth to do something meaningful but not so much that it leads to complacency.

I’ve experienced both giving and receiving help in life. There have been times when others supported me, and I’ve also tried to offer my time, resources, or advice when I can.

If I had wealth like Buffett’s, I would donate to strangers, especially those in need or working toward causes I care about. I believe smaller contributions can still make a meaningful impact.

As for leaving wealth to my children, I’d follow Buffett’s approach—giving them enough to succeed but not so much that they lose motivation. Wealth should be a tool for growth, not a crutch.

I do my best to spend both time and money helping others. Even small acts of kindness can make a difference, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply offering support when needed. [love you]

Warren Buffett's recent donation of $1 billion before Thanksgiving showcases his commitment to philanthropy and his belief in using wealth as a tool for making a positive impact. As an investment legend, Buffett has long emphasized the importance of giving back and ensuring that wealth is used responsibly.

Buffett's approach to teaching children about money resonates with many, as it strikes a balance between providing opportunities for meaningful action without fostering complacency. By giving his children enough resources to succeed but not an excessive amount, Buffett encourages self-motivation and personal growth.

If given wealth similar to Buffett's, many individuals would likely follow his philanthropic footsteps by donating to strangers in need, supporting causes they care about, and making smaller contributions that still have the potential to create a meaningful impact. Even smaller acts of kindness can make a difference, whether it be through financial donations, volunteering time and resources, or offering support to those in need.

It is important to remember that the decision to donate and the amount of wealth to leave to children is a highly personal one, influenced by individual circumstances, values, and goals. Buffett's approach of gradually distributing his remaining Berkshire shares to his children allows them to actively participate in philanthropic endeavors and responsibly manage their inherited wealth.

Overall, Warren Buffett's continued philanthropy serves as an inspiration for individuals to use their resources, whether large or small, to positively impact the lives of others and contribute to societal well-being.
