Could you briefly introduce yourself, share your investment journey — including how you earned your first “bucket of gold” — and explain what inspired you to start?
Hi darlings on Tiger Community, I am SPACE ROCKET, a 34-year-old SAHM to two lovely primary school boys. I started my investment journey on SGX in 2014 when I first graduated from NUS. Investments and the stock market were common topics in my household growing up, as my grandfather was an avid trader and investor. Though my grandfather has passed on, his impressive multimillion-dollar legacy lives on, and that inspires me to follow in his footsteps. It was only natural that I dabbled in the stock market when I had the means to. Investing in SGX was rather lackluster to be honest, but I struck my first pot of gold by exercising my rights to purchase SIA shares at $3 in 2020 when Covid woes struck. As for the US market, CLSK was my first gold pot. I bought thousands of CLSK shares in Nov 2023 when they were trading between $4.50-$6.50, and it was perhaps my best decision ever (back then).
We noticed you mainly trade options — why did you choose them as your primary instrument, and how did you master such a complex product?
Like many, my US market journey wasn’t smooth. I lost USD $22,000 on SEV’s IPO in 2021 and nearly gave up. In 2023, determined to turn things around, I discovered options. Selling covered calls on beaten-down stocks helped me generate cash, offset losses, and rebuild confidence. With this cash, I invested in CLSK, which became my most profitable trade—earning around USD $100K mainly through options. Refusing to give up, I embraced options for their flexibility and income potential. As the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens.
I noticed you often share 4–5 figure P&L results — how do you select stocks, manage risk, and what percentage of your portfolio do you typically put at risk?
For option premiums to be worth it, the stock chosen needs to be volatile, and crypto stocks (MARA, CLSK, IREN, COIN, CONL, MSTR, MSTY) are perfect for this set-up. In other words, option trading is about capitalising on people’s fear and emotions, but with caution and wit. Of course, one must be able to stomach the volatility and deal with early assignments of puts when rapid downturns and corrections happen. Note that American-style options can be exercised any time from the day of option purchase, hence an options seller needs to be mindful of the possibility of early assignment should the other party choose to exercise their option to sell or buy.
As my account grows, I get more cautious and be less risk-adverse, contrary to what most think. In months where I actively trade; I hold 40% in cash (to dip buy), 30% in stock, and 30% in options. Somewhere in July / Aug, I'd start taking profits off the table and exiting positions that I feel would likely dip in Sept / Oct. I'd preserve cash, trade cautiously, and wait on the side to buy the dip. Of course, there are anomaly bull Septembers and many would tell you not to time the market; but it's a strategy and risk that I’d willingly undertake. I'd rather preserve cash for now; strike while the iron is hot and dip buy stocks when they are on huge discounts (when fear is at all time high), than buy stocks when euphoria and greed is at all-time highs.
How do you view the market outlook for 2025? & What are your personal investment goals this year?
The market outlook for 2025 doesn’t bother me much—I focus on steady portfolio growth. Win rates and ROR can be misleading depending on how trades are calculated, so I take them with a pinch of salt. What matters to me is growing cash reserves and staying consistent with my strategies. Rather than chasing numbers, I track whether my account is moving in the right direction. My next personal goal is to steadily grow my portfolio toward USD $500K.
Having traded for only three years with a RoR of 216.03%, do you think your background in BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences and Forensic Sciences contributed to this success? If so, how?
My portfolio has grown more than 4X since 2023 (ROR of 452.71%). I credit this not just to financial knowledge, but to the life lessons and character-building values instilled through my education and experiences.
Discipline & Time Management: Learning how to manage time, people, and resources effectively taught me to plan trades, control risk, and meet long-term goals.
Prioritisation & Focus: Knowing what truly matters and letting go of distractions helps me trade with clarity instead of chasing noise.
Resilience & Perseverance: I don’t give up easily—setbacks become lessons, and every effort today builds a stronger tomorrow.
Self-Reflection: I encourage my sons to “thank their past selves” for today’s progress and work toward a future they’ll be proud of.
Growth Mindset: Always stepping out of comfort zones, improving strategies, and embracing change keeps me adaptable in markets.
Gratitude & Giving Back: Success isn’t just measured in returns; it’s about acknowledging the journey, being thankful for support, and contributing back to others.
5. I noticed you encourage your children to invest and trade, even buying shares as gifts — why, and how do you instil a sense of financial awareness in your family?
My only regret is not starting on the US market earlier. Look at the price of SPY / SPLG 10 years ago, VS the price now. If only Tiger Brokers was more well known then. Never ending "if-only(s)". That is why I encourage my boys to invest and trade on demo accounts for now because investing starts young. There are some families who shun investing altogether and make the whole stock market sound like a mega scam or murder ground. I want to instil financial confidence and prudence in my boys from young and have them bravely front the topic than shun it. As such, we discuss our trades, thoughts and opinions freely at home. I use my boys’ red packet money to invest / trade Cryptos (already more than doubled); and do reward my boys' good behaviour and grades with money, stocks, cryptos (BTC, ETH, SOL), gold and gemstones.
If your children become fully involved in investing or trading at a young age, how would you help them maintain balance in life?
At this point in time, education takes precedence. Followed by their musical and sporting pursuits. Trading and investments are more of a hobby for them at the moment.
You’ve been very active in the Tiger community, building many trading and investing friendships — how does this make you feel, how have these connections enriched your investment journey, and who do you thank the most?
Aww thank you! I am only active here because it is truly heartening and fun to be here. Investing alone can get pretty lonely, and one can be prone to hasty / rash decisions when the nights get lonely and the markets get rough. The support and friendships I've gotten from the Tiger Community has been nothing short of fantastic. Special shout out to my little sis from down under, Barcode, who churns out witty prose with hilarious references like as if she's baking Lamingtons 24/7. @Barcode entertained me greatly at the start of my trading journey, when I was pretty bored. At some point in time, I was just looking out to read her nightly posts and comments while my little ones slept. Special thanks to @icycrystal for always translating Chinese posts for me, tagging me in posts for coins, and not forgetting me (even though I can’t participate in everything she tags me in). Special love to @nomadic_m for all the tags and WhatsApp support through the ups and downs, nights and days, and crazy children's schedules.
