RGTI & QBTS - Quantum Rising Stars. Buy?

Quantum Euphoria.

For the week beginning 13 Oct 2025, quantum computing stocks continued to surge.

In particular, shares of $Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ and $D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$ (the quantum twins) have surged more than +88.74% and +74.72% respectively, since the beginning of October 2025.

All this driven by distinct but complementary catalysts related to major institutional backing, analyst upgrades, and geopolitical optimism in advanced computing technology.

$Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$

Rigetti’s surge was fueled by:

  • JPMorgan’s $10 billion “Security and Resiliency Initiative” announced on 13 Oct 2025, that identified quantum computing as one of 27 strategic technology sectors to strengthen US competitiveness.

  • The institutional endorsement sparked a +25% jump in RGTI’s stock that day. (see below)

  • Benchmark raised RGTI’s price target to $50 per share, from $20 earlier in October - reinforced by confidence in RGTI’s improving liquidity, growing product portfolio, and strong government R&D ties. (see below)

  • Rising optimism around RGTI’s modular “chiplet” architecture, that enables scalable high-fidelity quantum operations and has attracted defense contracts under the DARPA Quantum Behavioral Initiative (QBI).

$D-Wave Quantum Inc.(QBTS)$

D-Wave’s rally during the same period were anchored by:

  • Momentum following record highs at the start of October 2025, when its breached $30 per share, marking a +60% rise from mid-September 2025.

  • Strong fundamentals — It has a significant $819 million cash reserve by end of Q2 2025, following a large equity offering. Making it one of few publicly traded quantum computing companies with a balance sheet of this strength.

  • Renewed media and analyst coverage, including Piper Sandler’s and Benchmark’s bullish ratings, signaling strong institutional confidence.

  • Strategic partnerships. QBTS’s collaborations with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and planned Qubits Japan 2025 conference, reinforced its reputation as the only major quantum annealing hardware player with near-term commercialization potential.

  • On Wed, 15 Oct 2025 QBTS also announced a $10 million contract with Swiss Quantum Technology (SQT) to deploy its Advantage2 quantum computer in Italy, to support Italy’s new Q-Alliance quantum research facility. (see below)

Stock Movements.

Both companies benefited from broader quantum sector optimism, as investors interpreted government and corporate signals as confirmation of accelerating commercialization timelines for quantum technology.

This is reflected in their stock prices.

The real optimism came in mid to late September 2025 when both of them managed to break thru their respective resistant levels.

Based on past 6 months performance:

  • RGTI has a +582.91% gain or +$48.09 to $56.34 per share.

  • QBTS has a +595.34% gain or +$38.34 to $44.78 per share.

In terms of total returns (%), QBTS has a slight edge over RGTI.

My viewpoints: (mine only)

For shareholders who have bought into QBTS or RGTI early on, it is good news that they are soaring.

But I constantly remind myself that all quantum companies’ books are still in the red, losing money.

In view of this, investors have to be careful and selective if they intend to purchase any quantum stocks.

Buying the dip is the way to go and really study which Quantum company has actual paying customers and is growing the customer base.
