Tuesday Afternoon Market Recap

• $Oracle(ORCL)$ — Shares dipped 13.5% a day after the software company posted disappointing earnings and revenue guidance for its fiscal second quarter. Oracle’s revenue, which came in at $12.45 billion, was weaker than the $12.47 billion forecast by analysts. Its forward guidance of 5% to 7% revenue growth in the second quarter also fell short of the 8% implied growth expected by analysts polled by LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv.

  $WestRock(WRK)$ — The stock rose 2.8% following news that the paper and packaging company will go through with a merger with Smurfit Kappa. Shares of Smurfit Kappa traded on the FTSE 100 tumbled 9.8%.

  $Apple(AAPL)$ — Shares lost more than 1.8% during midday trading as the technology giant is expected to unveil a new iPhone at its launch event kicking off at 1 p.m. ET.

• U.S. WTI crude oil futures prices ended higher on Tuesday. The market expects that the production cuts by major oil-producing countries will lead to tight global crude oil supply in the fourth quarter, pushing oil prices to a new high this year. West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures for October delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose $1.55, or 1.8%, to close at $88.84 a barrel, the highest closing price since November 11. $WTI Crude Oil - main 2310(CLmain)$

• Gold futures prices in New York closed at their lowest level in three weeks on Tuesday. A stronger dollar weighed on gold prices. December gold futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed down $12.10, or 0.62%, to $1,935.10 an ounce, the lowest closing price since August 22.$Gold - main 2312(GCmain)$
